08:11 AM ET 06.30 | While Antonio Bastardo did the trick against the Red Sox Wednesday, Phillies fans would like to see the return of Brad Lidge. Lidge radiates optimism, and the partially torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder, complicated by further elbow issues, has tested his faith. But the erstwhile Phillies closer could actually be nearing a major step: Sometime next week, he could begin an official rehab assignment with either Double A Reading or Triple A Lehigh Valley. ... Lidge said he planned to play catch Thursday, then throw another bullpen session at one of the minor league affiliates. Once he begins his official rehab assignment, he can spend a maximum of 30 days pitching in the minors. Lidge thinks he needs about 10 appearances. His hope is to return before the end of July.

With Lee and Haliday throwing complete games the Phillies are in pretty good shape.

As every philly fan should appreciate what Brad did back in 2008...48-48 is amazing and Philly would not have won if he were not there doing what he did but he has been injury proned and not as effective since that run I would like to see what Madson, Stutes and Bastardo can do. Lidge should be no more then long relief at this point or put in for spot appearances when the phillies are up by a lot or down by a lot.

He won't be allowed back until he walks in at least 4 runs in a rehab inning, proving he's back to his true form.

The bullpen is weak, they need all the complete games they can get.

lidge needs to stay at the DL or just get well before he really wishes to comeback to the majors, unless the manager wants this guy to blow few games before he really can pitch!!!

Bring Lidge along slowly, have him razor sharp and ready for the playoffs.
