The Ravens' referee repercussions
The Ravens yesterday talked about moving past the controversies surrounding Monday's 27-24 loss to the Patriots, from their public criticism of the officials to their outbursts on the field. But Ravens coach Brian Billick understands it might not be easy to do so. Billick said yesterday that the Ravens' actions could have repercussions and lead officials to scrutinize the team more the rest of the season. "They shouldn't. They're not supposed to," Billick said. "I think the league will tell you, 'No, we call what we see.' But human nature says that's apt to happen."

Buck UP!!! Be a man this sport pays you well and there should be no complaints of how a person talk to you on the football field. If a ref uses racial or degrading terms toward you, wait till after the game confront him as a man.
If this does not meet with your satisfaction and he continues to berate you. Well let's just say it is still that time honor method of smacking some sense into his ****.
If you man enough to say it you should be man enough to accept the consequences of your mouthy actions.

What about the player Billick blew that kiss too, what would have happen if the player would have went over and confronted him. That would have been the biggest brawl ever seen on America Television since British and Italy Soccer.
Consider that for a moment.

Not too make this personal as a black man I hate that things unusually turn racial, but I believe that the swift boot of common sense hit's you in the butt for your comments on race don't complain,
deal with it.

back, wth are you smoking. you are the only person in this thread to talk about race.
if you READ the article, you'd see billick is concerned that refs will flag his team because they are ravens. not black or white.
if you read my comment, it says, its a little late for Billick to play the martyr trying to damage control.
if you are reacting to the ref player thing, that was a thread yesterday, and thats not this thread.

My bad,
Still if you act like a tough guy on the block and known for causing penalties, then he should expect guilt by association. Everything his team do will be under the watchful eye of scrutiny.
Hopefully I cleared the air.

If the Ravens get calls against them now I don't feel bad for them.. They should have kept their mouths shut, take the blame like a man, and learn from their melt down!!!

My bad
A team that acts like the bully on the block should realize each action will be under the watchful eye of scrutiny. when this team play some rough and ready football. We as the fans will be ready to cheer but when they whine as they are only thing I can say is.... Pass the cheese

Ravens: full of sound and fury, yet signifying nothing.
They talk a lot, a whole lot, but what is their record?

I think it was that interception later in the 4th that gave the ball back to the Patriots cost the game, not the refs.

Slamming helmets on the field (no penalty called although there should have been one called)--- throwing ref flags into the stands (thank God nobody was hit in the eye) --the head coach blowing kisses on national TV to opposing players on the field --- complaining about the penalties demonstatively --- yelling at their own coaches --- bad defensive play calling in the 4th Qtr --- inability to run when it counted -- untimely interception --- and playing overall dumb football --- what a franchise -- Ringling Brothers would be proud to call the Revens part of their 3 ring circus .....

Human nature tells me that when a team acts like a bunch of spoiled brats and disrespect the officials they are asking for closer scrutiny.

Billick blew kisses tgo Rodney Harrison after Harrison was talking trash to him on the sidelines. That's a low class move to talk trash to a coach. All Billick did was blow him a kiss to get into his head a little bit. Much better than if he would have trash talked back. The fact of the matter is that the refs did act inappropriately. The holding call at the end was questionable at best. If it is substantiated that the other ref did infact refer to Samari Rolle as a "boy" that is also deeply disturbing. The term "boy" is infact a racial slur dating back to the days of slavery. The players have a right to be mad, as they feel they were prejudiced by the referees and that the calls late in the game reflected that, and were a major factor in the outcome of the game.
Did they react poorly during the game? Absolutely. Bart Scott was a terrible example of a football professional However, given the adrenaline of the game, and the perceived prejudice of the officials, I don't blame him at all. If I heard an official call my friend and teammate a "boy", I would go off too. While not the best decision, we are all human.

If Billick is actually concerned about repercussions from the officials, it would have been wise for him to apologize to them for all the comments from his team, instead of fanning the flames by insinuating that they are going to treat his team badly "now". What in the world have they been complaining about all week? They should close the book on this one, and move on. If this keeps up, they will only sound like losers. Not only that, but continuing in this vein might actually provoke a backlash from a few officials, even though "they're not supposed to," as the coach so delicately put it.
For that matter coach, your team is supposed to be professional, and you all are "not supposed to" act like that either. Take care of your side of the problem, and the other side of the problem won't be there.
Ironically, every team has a complaint now and then about a bad call, but only the Ravens have fantasies about the whole NFL officiating system conspiring to bring them down. (Down from where?) It just sounds like loser talk.
I wish that Coach Billick would either calm his team down and apologize for all their whining, or at least have the sense to shut his mouth and go on. You need to win football on the field, not campaign for it like a politician.

Most undisciplined team ever. Whiney brats who could learn from the ADD kindergarten class. The Raven's aren't real men - they're just street thugs who blame "the man."

I'm always humored about half the story and in this one, especially by the fact that we've not heard all the comments made by all parties during the exchange in question. I for one, have heard the word "boy" was taken out of context and whatever all the words were, were initiated by members of the Ravens team to a ref who has played in the NFL himself. There is even a limit to what a ref has to listen too.
And as for Rodney Harrison making some stupid comment to Brian Billick, Billick started blowing a SERIES of kisses to Harrison even after Harrison turned and walked away. No wonder the Ravens are loosing...little to no discipline. Ya gotta believe it was Harrison who got into Billick head. Like someone commented, the Ravens are about close to a Ringling Brothers Circus!
