Cowboys likely to unload Williams

08:45 AM ET 07.03 | The loaded veteran market of available wide receivers could become more loaded if the Cowboys send Roy Williams packing, and it's looking more and more like that will happen. There are two reasons why Williams is likely going to be a former Cowboy in the near future. The first is he's making more money than he's worth. The second is the team wants to clear the way for Dez Bryant to play more. There will be a healthy market for Williams though.

Roy's gonna cost money either way. Why unload him now? Clear the way for Dez? That's easy...it's called the bench, Roy.

I think most Cowboys fans were ready for this a year ago.
First things first... end the lockout!

No doubt. Can't blame that one on spell-check.

Bad move. Bryant is a playground player who doesn't put in the work to learn the routes or the schemes. He gets by on ability alone but most plays he's just running around missing blocking opportunities. He doesn't take his defender out of the play if the ball is not coming to him.
With all the criticism of Roy at least he's a professional. Dez is a tool.

Dez may (or, may not) be a tool...but it doesn't take much of watching him to know he's going to be an NFL stud. That said, I still agree on the bad move part. Roy's money is spent either way. Dez is coming off an injury. Always nice to have a #3 of Roy's caliber (he may not be a 1, but he's a nice 3). Ride the pine, Roy.

You know it's bad when Matt Millen outsmarts a GM in a trade.

Depending on the cap hit...we'll see. I mean, if it's going to hurt your cap and you still have to pay him...I doesn't seem very smart. Williams can still be productive and was last year until Romo got hurt. It's not like he can't play anymore...he will get a job somewhere.
Considering the current unproven backups on the roster...it should only happen if it makes financial sense, thus allowing Dallas to go get another veteran WR.

Roy didn't start playing until Dez starting putting up numbers and he thought his job was in jeopardy. Roy is a "Tool" for the man and that man is about to give him a big ole Pink Slip!!

Which only points to the main problem in Dallas: Millen eventually got fired....

I really believe Millen was overmatched. I met him for the first time recently and he's a very nice guy. But I definitely believe he was in over his head.

Good point. Dez is injury prone. And he's dumber than a box of rocks.
IMO the problem with Williams' production is Romo and his checkdowns running that goofy offense that can't decide if it wants to be a 2 TE shotgun spread, a power running game or an off-tackle outside game. Cowboys' situational player substitutions give the plays away every time.
