08:10 AM ET 07.04 | Detroit won Sunday, but a 15-3 loss Saturday probably didn't help matters for pitching coach Rick Knapp, who was replaced by Jeff Jones. Max Scherzer said Knapp was his "eyes" for what he wanted to do mechanically. "Someone you lean on," Scherzer said. "With Jonesy now, I'm going to have to develop a quick relationship and go over the little things I do, what I need to hear and get me back locked on." Brad Penny said he heard the news from Knapp himself. "Bottom line is he got fired because of our performance," said Penny, who earned his last win on June 5. "He wasn't out there throwing pitches, and the inconsistencies we've had, other than Justin, are why he's not going to be here anymore. For me, that's tough." ... "We pitch bad and coaches get fired."

It's kinda hard to not see where the GM is coming from here. The Tigers have been getting SHELLED by NL hitting.

Only 4 teams in MLB have an ERA worst then the Tigers who have an ERA of 4.39

Balt 4.41, K.C. 4.62 in the American league and in the National league Cubs with an ERA of 4.55 and Houston 4.65

Tigers have 4 of the top 8 hitters (batting avg.) in the American league yet can't get consistent pitching, except for Verlander, to go along with this.

Very understandable, but.......

If you don't have the horses in the shed, then you can't race. Outside of Verlander, nobody on the Tigers is scaring anyone as a pitcher.

penny has a point of vew but honestly the manager needs to move on as well the general manager because all this coaches and managers aren't doing their job and this itsn't from this year but from the last past three seasons they had done nothing but just take their money and just relax!!!

perhaps the tiger should send verlander to pitch every other day, who knows the tigers may get a shot at that approach??

When you have a pitcher friendly park, that is pretty bad. But hey, get better pitchers. I doubt it's the pitching coach. He didn't sign Brad Penny with the idea that he'd contribute mightily. Maybe the GM didn't want the evil eye cast in his direction.
