Suh: Lions not a good fit for 'Knocks

08:00 AM ET 07.05 | Ndamukong Suh may have become a pitchman, but he's not ready to turn his team inside out for HBO. You'd think the opportunity to appear on HBO's Hard Knocks -- assuming there will be a training camp -- might appeal to the Detroit Lions' budding star. Far from it. Suh says he's glad the Lions declined the offer to raise their team profile on the popular HBO show. ... "I don't know if we'd be a good fit. I think it would be great for the city to see what we're doing and so forth, but, in my personal opinion, I don't really like the limelight ... especially when I'm in a workout," Suh said on CBSSports.com podcast. "That's probably one of the most annoying things that you sometimes have to encounter."

#1. The Lions are irrelevant to be showcased on any tv show. Winning (where's Charlie Sheen) brings in viewers. When's the last time the Lions had a winning season?

Darrel,
I think you fail to realize the Lions are becoming a very good team. Why kick a dead horse with the "lions are irrelevant card" during a time of uncertainty in the NFL, due to the lockout?

As they say in the mutual fund ads, "Previous performance is no guarantee of future performance." In the case of the Lions, their years of failure may well be at an end. This is a serious team. The rejection of the Hard Knocks circus atmosphere is the right thing for them to do. They can focus on being a football team instead of a "media event."
They're not going to the playoffs this year, but watch them in the future.
Of course, if Matthew Stafford ends up endorsing stretchers and ambulances again, well, it could be another long season in Motor City.

I think it would be cool to turn it down. It shows a head for the mission at hand and not reality TV hijinks. I can certainly believe that Suh has no interest in such garbage. He's interested in football and making a steadily improving team better. Turning it down would give the Lions more credibility.

The Lions avoided the show because of the 50 year curse that just doesn't end. They feared the show would go off the air if they went on it. Their entire focus is on the shoulder of baby face Stafford. If he goes down, so goes the Lions again this year and the curse lives on.

Stafford is the starter and definitely the guy when healthy. But, Shaun Hill played very well last season after Stafford went down (the first time) and could conceivably have won the starter's job, except that he got hurt, too.
Detroit needs to focus on protecting the QB, teaching him not to take chances, and avoiding plays that put their porcelain playcallers in peril.

I want to care about this story, but I can't, until this damn lockout ends. I hate College Football. Please don't make me have to watch it. Please Obi-Wan. Help me. You're my only hope.

As a fan of a team that has embarassed itself TWICE on "Hard Knocks", I fully support Suh's position.

You nay-sayers will eat your words when the Lions go 10-6 and earn a wild card berth. Then, in 2012 they will be real Superbowl contenders!
Or not. Anyway, GO LIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agreed. And I think the Lions have addressed this through a committment to the ground game. Stafford & Hill will not be asked to throw the ball so much and therefore you will see less dropbacks. I won't be surprised if the starting Lions QB averages less than 26 attempts per game all season long.

Good for the Lions. All the publicity they need they'll get it on the field if Matty can stay healthy.
