08:02 AM ET 07.05 | Even to lift weights is somewhat remarkable for Chad Jones. Now halfway through a grueling two-year rehabilitation, he is starting to see light at the end of a long, dark tunnel. ... Professional athletes have authored some remarkable comeback stories. But, as far as [John Moran] can tell, no professional athlete -- certainly no NFL player -- has fully recovered from the combination of gruesome lower-leg injuries Jones is trying to overcome. The horrific crash delivered a devastating double whammy to Jones' left leg -- massive nerve and soft-tissue damage in his thigh, calf, heel and ankle along with a compound fracture of the tibia and fibula. "To come back from something this severe would be unprecedented," said Dr. Tim Finney, one of the team of orthopedic specialists who has overseen Jones' recovery.

Help me out here... Who is Chad Jones? And who is "Moran"?

July 5, 2011  08:18 AM ET

I dunno, some guys have a hard time coming back from turf toe or a wounded ego.

July 5, 2011  08:18 AM ET

I think his comeback is working, because 5 minutes ago, I didn't know who the hell he was.

July 5, 2011  08:21 AM ET

With that kind of damage he wants to come back and play football???

Dumb ****!

Chad Jones was drafted by the Giants in 2010. He was in a car crash (he was driving) before the 2010 season started. Simple facts like this really clarify stories like this. Consider it a learning process. That's why they call you "interns."

George Clarance "Bugs" Moran was a Prohibition Era gangster. How he got into the thread, I'll never know.

Thank you. I'm less confused now. That "Moran" thing has just ruined my day. But, I will try to press on.

Easy for you to say, but the Moran thing really bugs me.

Morning all maybe they mean "Moron"

Alright then...

Unfortunate. He was a top rated safety coming out of school. I just don't see him ever playing football again.
Lucky for him the Mara family is a class act. He was not under contract when it happened, but they paid him anyways.

To clarify something about his contract:
They could have released him and paid only an injury settlement. Happens all the time. Only the guaranteed money in an NFL contract is ever due any player.

God bless him. I wish him the best.

The Maras again showing why they are top notch individuals and why the Giants are a top-notch organization.

And who is this Favre guy that the Chief mentioned?

Chad Jones was a safety for LSU and he was drafted by the Giants, he was down here in New Orleans and lost control of his car in the rain, it was a blessing he even survived, we passed the site and pulled over to watch them get him out of what was left of his car, wasn't much left! My prayers went out to this young man, he was trying to go out with some friends and celebrate that he finally made it and was about to be able to provide for his family that raised him, now he can only hope that he will be able to walk again on his own.
