08:25 AM ET 07.05 | Is there a chance that Steven Stamkos, after on-again-off-again speculation, could become a member of the Flyers? Well, it's still highly doubtful, but an NHL source told The Inquirer that the Flyers will put a trade offer together for the Tampa Bay superstar if the Lightning feel they cannot sign him. Stamkos, who has scored a league-best 96 goals over the last two years, still had not signed as of late Monday night. Tampa has reportedly offered Stamkos a five-year deal for $37.5 million, a cap hit of $7.5 million per season. Flyers GM Paul Holmgren said he fully expects Stamkos to resign with the Lightning. That said, the Flyers are prepared to make a trade proposal in the unlikely event he couldn't come to terms.

Paul, you traded away Richards and Carter, signed a guy who should've stayed in the KHL and messed up Talbot's contract. Why shouldn't you try to make the disaster complete by giving away four first-round picks to Tampa Bay for the privilege of signing a guy who'll wreck your cap for years.

Kinda feel sorry for the guy that'll replace you as the Flyers' GM. Nice mess you'll leave for him to clean up.

Y hasn't he signed?

July 5, 2011  08:48 AM ET

Do the Flyers have that kind of cap space or will they have to get rid of Hartnell and Briere to afford him?

I've been looking for where Kaberle signed and I can't find anything. Does anyone know who he signed with and how much he got?

The guy probably wants $4-5M a year for many years. So far, his best offer amounts to a case of beer and a bag of Cheetos.

I don't believe he's been picked up yet BF.

I'm surprised. His agent and his ego are probably holding out for another huge contract. At some point they've got to realize that it ain't gonna happen.

I agree BF but all those years in To***to sucked the common sense out of him.

I was wondering that too. Can they even afford him?

I've been watching to see what Phantom has to say about all these shenanigans by Holmgren. I guess Laviolette wants to put his stamp on this team for years to come. Whether it works or not is yet to be seen. I thought they had a pretty good squad last year that needed some tweaking here and there but not a whole lot. Maybe a goalie to act as a mentor to the youngster....................but this is a lot to digest.

Owner finally went senile and decided to direct his team's decisions for the first time since 1992.. (someone will get this)

The bigger question is .... is Holmgren prepared to pull a "Kevin Lowe" at this stage of his career? Is he willing to doom the Flyers for the next 15 years by giving up a half dozen first round picks? Could he possibly be that dumb? I don't think so.
