Burke reshaped Leafs ... for the better?

08:27 AM ET 07.05 | Brian Burke claims to be done for a bit. "We're going to sit back and catch our breath now," Burke said in a phone interview on Monday. "We feel we've dramatically altered the look of the team for the better. So we're going to sit back now and await further developments." So the roster that you see before you could be the roster that opens the season on Oct. 6. If so, that is not necessarily such a bad thing. The pieces that Burke recently added have made Toronto a better team than the one that finished ninth in the Eastern Conference standings last season. How much better is up for debate. Will forwards Tim Connolly and Matthew Lombardi, and defensemen Cody Franson and John-Michael Liles transform the Leafs into a Stanley Cup contender? No chance. Will those players help them make the playoffs? Maybe.

Burke has changed the team, but if you look at the players who turned down more money to play somewhere else you have to wonder what is wrong with the Leafs. When you have a player like Max Talbot turning you down and going elsewhere for less money it is time for some serious introspection.

Their two new D are upgrades, but they have no one on O. Tim C hasn't been that good in years. Sure he might be a #1 on the Leafs but that's like saying RR is the top coach on the Leafs. It's because there is no one else.

Who would want to play in the fishbowl of Toronto. Every move made on or off the ice is scrutinized to death by the media. Win a few games and everyone wonders why? Lose a few games and everyone wonders why. While not a Leafs fan, I like Burke and Wilson's approach to the media. They challenge the media when they ask their stupid questions and move forward.
