08:02 AM ET 07.06 | Tony Gonzalez may be preparing for retirement, but he doesn't sound like a guy who is absolutely certain this is it. [Gonzalez] might be about to embark on the final season of his career, assuming the lockout ends in time for there to be a season. Yes, Gonzalez -- whom some consider the greatest tight end of all time -- says he plans to play this year, but isn't sure he'll put off retirement when his contract expires after the season. "I'm taking it one year at a time," Gonzalez told PFW. "Say we get a season started and we go out there. The only way I would be for certain that I'm going to retire is if we go out there and win the Super Bowl this year, which could happen because we have a really good football team. I'm just going to wait and see."

A really good football team that falls apart in the playoffs. I'm guessing the Saints will be back, and Atlanta will be scrambling for a wild card.

Time for Matty Ice to step up...

He may not ever retire, then...

Father time appears to be catching up to him, looking at this picture..

I just don't see Atlanta giving him the championship he's looking for. Still, he's closer to it there than with KC.

I thought he was going to retire this year? Please don't do a Favre!

Does this mean he could be 50 or more before he retires?

The last time a Northern team took it to Atlanta as bad a Green Bay did in the playoffs, it was led by General Sherman.

At his age, pinching one hurts.

Tony, I wish you the best and hope you finally win your title. You deserve it. We wish you could've won your superbowl here and understand why you asked to leave. However, when its all said and done and you know that you want to retire... Please come back to KC, sign your one day contract and end it as a Chief. We love you here and appreciate everything you've done for us. To us, no matter what happens with Atlanta, you'll always be a Kansas City Chief!

Gonzalez needs to retire now because there is a snowballs chance that the Falcons will see another Super Bowl any time in the near future.

The Falcons will not win the Super Bowl this year, sorry Tony.
