08:34 AM ET 07.10 | The Red Sox have the Cubs' Matt Garza high on the list of pitchers they're pursuing for an injury-depleted rotation. He has pitched well against them. The Cubs would have to get a lot in that trade, including a majors-ready arm to replace Garza.

Crawford played well against the Sox as well.

Garza has been a good pitcher, he's still young and might be an excellent addition, but please, not 'cause he's pitched well against the Sox.

Lackey pitched well against the Sox as well, and he's now the worst pitcher in the history of the world. But I can't hate on him, because he sounds like the singing bass in those "Gimme back that Filet O'Fish" commercials.

TRADE LACKEY TO THE CUBS STRAIGHT UP for Garza. That would be awesome.

the sox will always be the brides maid in the AL and you all know it. Their fans are the worst in baseball, stupid and think they are better than everyone else. But guess what, at the end of the day you are still a sox fan AND stupid

Yankees fan here; I've always liked Matt Garza, and I wouldn't mind if he joins our rotation someday. The asking price seems high though.

Garza is under team control until 2013. He ain't coming cheap and the Sox don't have the farm system to get the deal done.

July 10, 2011  10:21 AM ET

Uh, I say keep him. Trade Dempster instead.

July 10, 2011  10:22 AM ET

Vive Cubbies!!!

I hope the Cubs fleece the Sox, so they don't think that every other team is a shopping cart.

Hello New York Yankees.

I sure hope so. 4-7 with an era of 4.26, he's a shell of his former self. I'm sure the Rays saw this coming and unloaded this guy just at the right time, just like Kazmier.

Today, the Red Sox traded for Matt Garza. They gave up their best player prospect and signed Garza to a 8 year $100 million dollar contract.

He will fit in with the rest of the over-paid players and continue on with his surging ERA and losses.

You just keep dreaming and hoping. I guess that's all you have left.

Only the Cubbies' Jim Hemdry would give that kind of a contract to a marginal player. I certainly don't think you can call any starter on the Cubbies their ace. They have all been disappointing.

Cubs have an ace? I did not know that.

While we're at it, trade Dice-K for Starlin Castro. <gives finger>

I know the Cubs seem to be really high on Garza, but trading him isn't nearly as bad of a move as they think it would be, so long as they got GOOD prospects back for him. With that being said, it is clear Jim Hendry should not even be close to being involved in making that trade (his last trade designed to get prospects was Mark DeRosa for three pitchers, two of which flopped big time and the other of which was good...but got sent to Tampa for Garza; his previous "for prospect" trades didn't fare much better). Heck, if the Ricketts family is smart, they let him and manager Mike Quade go after the All-Star break and personally go to Lehigh Valley, get down on their hands and knees, beg Ryne Sandberg to coach for them, and pay the Phillies however much they ask for to let him go to the Cubs.

Yeah, actually, they do. His name is "Poorly Played Defense From the Other Team". When his turn comes up, the Cubs actually win games...but only like 25% of them.
