09:53 AM ET 07.10 | The relationship between Brad Richards and head coach John Tortorella makes this different than the all the failed signings preceding it. This isn't a coach hoping a player can do the job; this is a coach knowing the player can get it done. And it is the relationship between Richards and Tortorella that allowed the head coach to sell the owner on front-loading to the count of $20M over the next 12 months, that allowed the coach to vouch for this player as he never could for anyone else.

Failed signing? Sather signed players that didn't produce as expected? Hard to believe. In any event, Richards doesn't have to win the Hart, the Art Ross and the Rocket Richard trophies next season to outshine the group of losers the article refers to without naming.

If Richards had gone to the Wild and then was visited by Brett Favre, Fan Nation would have exploded.

Sounds like someone's still a tad cranky about Slats unloading Gomez to Montreal. :-)

Fixed.

The first correction I shouldn't have to explain.

The second one comes from the fact that I think of FanNation as a vacuum, not a place that can expand.

Not a big fan of watching my team pick up other people's mistake, no.

At least he didn't cost us two firsts and a second...

In more ways than one, yes.

The interns don't seem in a hurry to give us another story.

Richards is a good signing for the Rangers. They have a great goalie, they will be better.

Its the off season. Every team is a contender and every team is improved. All the signings are great this time of year and everyone can point to how the new guys will pick up their team. In November when reality rears its ugly head, then its a different tune.

Let me help them out a bit. We know it's coming anyway.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) ??? The Minnesota Wild have signed defenseman and Minnesota native Mike Lundin (lun-DEEN) to a one-year deal.

List of next years free agents now that everybobys tied up their money for years: Sean Avery, Johnny Boychuk, Brad Boyes, Brent Burns, Shane Doan, Ales Hemsky, Barret Jackman, Niklas Kronwall, Zach Parise, Pekka Rinne, Alexander Semin, Patrick Sharp, R.J. Umberger, Brad Stuart, Ryan Suter, Shea Weber. Not to say some won't resign but some overpaying teams this year will not be in on this.

It still won't make a difference to the success of the NYR!

July 10, 2011  02:24 PM ET

Didn't they say that about Drury, then Gomez, then Redden, then Gaborik, then Frolov, then Wolski... Wow, that list is endless!
