10:19 AM ET 07.16 | I don't know if Steve Smith will be a Carolina Panther next season. I do know that he went to the house of Panthers owner Jerry Richardson late last season and asked to be traded. Multiple sources confirm it.

Good luck trying to trade a 31 year old WR with diminishing skills and some recent injury history. Add in his personal baggage, and that is one hard trade to make.

Really slacked off last year, fumbles up a few. WR are a dime a dozen, tight ends are worth their weight in gold I always said.

So now they are recycling old T&R, didn't this same thread appear 4 weeks ago? Only then it was something like Cam Newton doesn't want Steve Smith to go.

They should trade him to a contender for a stud offensive lineman. Without some blocking for the QB, he will become so frustrated by the inability of inexperienced QB's to deliver him the ball under extreme pressure that he becomes a net minus. Besides, he deserves a chance to finish his career on a winning team, and his career may be over before the Panthers are fully reloaded.

Who is going to trade with his contract. I believe he is due $7,000,000 in 2011.
Frustrating, but probably is the Barry Sanders Syndrome; would rather not be here then be with a loser. Ron Rivera at HC, firing the RB coach, and drafting Cam Newton; things aren't going to get better soon.

News for all football genius's. The Panthers sucked for several reasons last year. First and foremost, John Fox didnt give a damn. He knew he was gone after the season. Next, the O-Line suffered several injuries. Jordan Gross and Ryan Kalil are pro bowlers, and both were hurt part of last year. Travelle Wharton going down for the year hurt them bad. They also lost depth on the line from previous years players taking off for greener pastures. Also, Thomas Davis, a potential pro bowl caliber LB, got hurt again and was out for the year. IF, IF these men come back and stay healthy, the Panthers will not suck as bad as most think. With a healthy offensive line, and one of the top RB committees in the entire NFL ( if they do the smart thing and resign DeAngelo Williams, who by the way slumped because of injuries too ), the team will be fine. They now have for the first time since Wesley Walls retired, a top caliber TE in Jeremy Shockey IF he can stay healthy, which is a big if. Shockey is one of the best blocking TE's you'll find. They need to keep Steve Smith and add another WR who is a downfield threat to take some of the heat off of the slot man Smith who is better making short yardage catches then yards after the catch with his speedy self. He has to have someone help take all the heat from defenders to maximize his talent. And the defense should improve under the new head coach Rivera, no doubt. Address the DB's some and add depth there. Then last but not least, Cam Newton. At first I doubt the pick but now I think he may just suprise the heck out of everybody. So go ahead all football guru's. Talk junk about the Panthers. Then watch as they come back up into contention. Any and all NFL teams are greatly affected by injuries. Carolina has had more than their share lately.

Oops. My bad. I forgot to mention the stud right tackle whose name escapes me at the moment. He was out all of last year too. So if he comes back healthy, the Panthers have a very good O-Line

That's all great, but who is going to throw Steve Smith the darn ball? As soon as Cam throws his 20th interception, Smith will cold **** him.
