Miles still Michigan wild card

09:59 AM ET 12.09 | Ball State coach Brady Hoke may be a viable candidate, despite just early contact with Michigan athletic director Bill Martin and no known interview. U-M coordinators, Ron English and Mike DeBord, both are possibilities. But Les Miles remains the wild card and will until a new coach is hired. Michigan already has permission to contact him. It's believed that contact has occurred between the sides in the past few days. But all parties would probably like it to remain as discreet as possible to not endanger Miles' position at LSU. Even though Miles is weeks away from the biggest game of his coaching career, his passion for Michigan remains undeniable. Simply listen to his radio interviews and read his barely amended contract.

Why don't you rumour mongers give it a rest....He is staying at LSU....Get on with it...

December 9, 2007  04:05 PM ET

They must be putting crack in the water cooler at the Detroit Free Press. It's over, it was over before it started. They cannot beleive anyone could be happy anywhere but Michigan.

December 9, 2007  04:36 PM ET

jesus christ he sighned a new contract and people are still saying hes going to michigan. give it a rest, MILES IS NOT GOING ANYWHERE. and dont even say he still has the buyout in his contract cause you dont even know what the buyout means. all it does is state that if he leaves for michigan then he has to pay LSU 1.25 million whereas he would owe the school 500,000 if he left for any other school. so it doesnt mean he can still leave, if anything it would be the opposite.

December 9, 2007  04:47 PM ET

Hasn't this all been a little disrespectful to the Michigan assistant coaches? It doesn't seem like anybody is even considering them.

December 9, 2007  07:31 PM ET

All of you Michigan and anti SEC or anti LSU fans will not let it go. Miles has made it clear and he is no Nick Saban; He means it. I guess yall are so scared that LSU will be ready to take out OSU like the Gators did last year that you will keep trying to screw up things for LSU as your only hope to win the game.

December 9, 2007  07:32 PM ET

I've been gone for the last couple days without internet access. Has there been any talk about John Tenuta going there? I hope not.

Either way, Les Miles is staying at LSU.

December 9, 2007  07:48 PM ET

HE R KNOT GOIN TO MISHAGAIN

December 9, 2007  08:24 PM ET

Bullday ..... This Big 10 fan hopes you take out OSU just like the Gators. Can't stand the Buckeyes.

December 10, 2007  12:53 AM ET

The Big ten schools will continue to fall behind the other confrences because they refuse to pay the big money that souther schools are willing to pay for coaches. ND didn't offer enough for urban meyer, UM 1 million less than LSU and not nearly enough for schiano psu will be next, as they only pay jopa 500,000 a year as it is and i doubt they will shell out enough cash for a big named coach. a trend is begining to start. and watch it OSU, the best big ten school by far, will get crushed by an sec school again.

December 10, 2007  02:24 AM ET

this still going on

December 10, 2007  08:39 AM ET

Hey Chubbs.......Yeah, some DUMB A** at SI doesn't get the message!

December 10, 2007  09:53 AM ET

When did all of this start? I never heard Miles talk of leaving LSU.
AND Michigan is looking for a new coach? What happened to Lloyd?

December 10, 2007  10:53 AM ET

More press shenanigans. Non-story.

December 10, 2007  02:45 PM ET

Sports reporting in Michigan must be slow if the Detroit Free Press still thinks Miles is gonna leave LSU. If this is what they resort to, to sell papers it's sad. I guess the signed contract and Les Miles own words that he is staying is not enough to convince whomever keeps reporting that he is being considered for the job is not enough!!!

December 10, 2007  09:43 PM ET

Mark Snyder is the biggest Michigan homer this side of Mitch Album. Don't believe a word he says. He has made a personal crusade out of keeping this story alive by what ever means necessary.

December 10, 2007  09:56 PM ET

Screw Miles, give me Brian Kelley. He has won everywhere he's coached.

December 11, 2007  12:11 AM ET

UM is scared to death of Brian Kelly, He knows what it takes to have a winning program and all those old mentalities fast asleep at UM at the top....wouldn't touch Kelly with a ten foot poll. Why? Because look what he did at Grand Valley and CMU .....created changes!!!! Face it ......these old schools boys like playing it safe AND keeping their jobs.........the only problem is ......safe......is boring and a loosing mentality no matter how big of a school you are....The future are all these Big East teams and lesser known programs with coaches who are full of spunk and know how to make a team come to life!!! These coaches at Rutgers, Cincinnati, don't have to put up with BS of these big schools....they have the ability to make changes ......and they are the future of a new breed of football programs. Including conditioning, speed, and a different generation of athletes. Kelly would be crazy to go to UM, he will be going to a BCS bowl next year.....with Cincinnati...if they can committ to continuing to grow and .....expand facilities , watch out Ohio State. Who the hell wants to be a puppet on a string....especially when the one pulling the strings is living in the past..............Young exciting coaches who create change, stir the pot, tell the truth, and demand you live in the present!
