Patriots to lose Light?

10:06 AM ET 07.17 | Matt Light, an unrestricted free agent who has been Tom Brady's blindside protector for 10 years, may not be back. His future will likely be addressed as soon as teams can make transactions. According to a source close to the negotiations, the Patriots made what they deemed to be a fair offer to Light before the lockout started. It was rejected. The Patriots may not be willing to budge much off that number, and the team certainly won't be looking to set the market for the 33-year-old. Light will certainly have plenty of options. Both the Falcons and Chiefs, two contending teams, have question marks at left tackle.

One could lose a lot of things in that thicket...

Maybe Brady or even Giselle could pony up some $ for the "Keep Matt Light Fund", as they are the primary beneficiaries.

No more Light left in that tunnel....

It is no secret that he has been looking to move on.

Patriots have been planning for this. The OL to whom they will be willing to pay the money is Mankins.

Light had a good run with the Pats. He was not a Pro Bowl caliber LT, more a pass protector than a hole opener and he was good for two holding calls per game. But the Pats would rather have had the holding call than Brady flat on his back.

New Brady rule: Defenses cannot rush Patriot rookie or unproven linemen. Defenses can only sack Brady if they ask his permission first.

Plus, with Brady's knee injury, he already plays semi-paranoid. Light is his most trusted lineman. They should take care of him, but it's not the Patriots' way...

Yea, he looked real paranoid when he was shredding the league last year.

Light's beard scares off most defenders. Light is underrated, and the Pats will miss him early if they let him go. His work ethic and leadership have made him a soft spoken main stay leader. Bruschi, gone. Vrabel, gone. Now, Lights, out...
