08:24 AM ET 07.19 | After not being extended by SKA St. Petersburg, Alexei Yashin is on the KHL's open market. He is very highly thought of in the KHL and probably will have no problem finding a club. KHL outsider Avtomobilist from Pavel Datsyuk's hometown of Ekaterinburg is reportedly showing interest. But according to [Mark Gandler], the NHL is still an option for Yashin in 2011, saying that the former New York Islanders and Ottawa Senators star has already received an offer to return to the league. This is what Gandler told Sergei Begishev of Sovetsky Sport [Monday]: Is there an interest in Alexei from the NHL? "We have already received one offer." From the Islanders? "I will not discuss what the club is. We are considering the expediency of the offer."

you beat me to it. Bring back that deadbeat so he can call us all morons for not seeing the GENIUS otherwise known as Garth Snow, hard at work. The man will make an offer to anybody.

Every time you feel good for the Islanders having a few young studs, you remind yourself that they are the Islanders for a reason...

I have no words that could add to those above me.

If a player doesn't get picked up by his KHL squad, shouldn't it tell you everything you need to know about that player?

July 19, 2011  09:29 AM ET

Is he still putting the Koho to Carol?

July 19, 2011  09:31 AM ET

maybe the Flyers are signing him

Yashin to Jagr, oh how the rest of the NHL can dream.

July 19, 2011  09:41 AM ET

Sure he did. Why just leave it at one offer if you're going out on that limb?

Yashin to Jagr to Kovalev would naturally follow.

That would be definitely be a line that the rest of the NHL would love to see happen to the Flyers.

Technically his salary is still hitting the cap, so he's kinda still in the NHL, right?

July 19, 2011  10:36 AM ET

Yashin back in the NHL ?? Whichever team would sign him would become the laughingstock of the NHL.

... aahahahaha. Made my day.

The Flyers can have him. The Flyers will unload more good talent to have a Kovalev, Jagr Yashin line with Gonchar and Redden. Throw in any Flyer goalie in the last 20 years. Sounds perfect.

July 19, 2011  10:48 AM ET

So a few years in the KHL and these guys have forgotten that they can't play in the NHL anymore?
