Marchand's folk hero status will pay

08:27 AM ET 07.19 | Peter Chiarelli insisted recently that signing Brad Marchand was among his top offseason priorities. The Bruins have the right to match any offer for Marchand, who earned a significant raise from his $821,667 salary cap hit last season. Initially considered a fourth-line scrapper, the 5-foot-9 dynamo manned the left wing on the second line, finishing with 21 goals and 20 assists. Marchand elevated to local folk hero status with 11 goals, eight assists and plenty of feistiness in the postseason. That should net him an annual salary in the $2-3 million range. ... [Said Marchand:] "We're confident something is going to get done real soon. ... We know something is going to get done. They know I want to be here. I know they want me here."

11 goals, many of them game changers, and 8 assists. You have to wonder if the Bruins would've gotten the same production in the playoffs from Kessel had they kept him. I'll go on a limb and say no.
Sign him up, Peter.

Petey's offered him 3.5 mil per year but Marchand is holding out for a nose full of nickels.

He certainly deserves a raise! He elevated his game when it mattered the most.

Running the bus over him a few times certainly would tenderize him a bit.

Yeah, that sounds about right, though is a hometown discount too as I'm sure he could get more on the open market.
Bs just can't sign him for too long of a term, though. His style of play does not lend itself to long careers.

Well. They don't have any 1st rounder to give away for the foreseeable future. So, that takes care of that rumor.

We can't get too greedy. We already stole from the Leafs once. I'll go out on a limb and state that Seguin and Knight will be outscoring Kessel in the near future, and that Dougie Hamilton will be a fixture on the blue line for years to come. It speaks volumes that Kessel was the last player chosen in the All-Star draft by his peers.

Hope he's not as soft as Horton proved to be on that hit from Rome.
