08:03 AM ET 07.20 | With the Colts since 1998, Peyton Manning is now the subject of significant speculation. When it comes to NFL big names, no one wields more cachet than [Manning]. With the owners and players about to strike a deal for a new collective bargaining agreement, Manning, a named plaintiff in the lawsuit against the league, is reportedly making a power play. According to a report from the Boston Globe, and later confirmed by CBSSports.com, Manning is looking to hit the open market when the lawsuit is settled. Manning would like his current franchise tag from the Colts removed and to never have that designation again. That would take Manning from being locked with Indianapolis for one year at about $23.7 million to an unrestricted free agent, making him a high priority to re-sign for a lucrative long-term deal.

Ahh... the proverbial "fly in the ointment"...

July 20, 2011  08:08 AM ET

I could see that being removed at some point, but I don't think it can happen right at the start, especially with the lockout halting trades and FA negotiations so far. I think you would need to allow for the tag at least this season.

Won't happen...

One year at $23.7 million dollars. They could put any tag on me they liked for that.

The Franchise Quarterback the Redskins have longed for.

Zachery! No freaking way he's leaving Indy.

Open market, schmopen market. He just wants to renogotiate and lock in a long-term contract now. Suppose he gets tagged and then gets hurt. What's his value then?

Mr. Manning isn't going anywhere.

Agreed. Manning has the ideal situation for himself in Indy.

really amazing I paid $32.67 for a XBOX 360 and my mom got a 17 inch Toshiba laptop for $94.83 being delivered to our house tomorrow by FedEX. I will never again pay expensive retail prices at stores. I even sold a 46 inch HDTV to my boss for $650 and it only cost me $52.78 to get. Here is the website we using to get all this stuff, BidsNew.com

how many bids did you get for your arse ??
