08:12 AM ET 07.21 | This can be a dizzying time of the baseball year, and a Wednesday tweet mentioned the Astros' willingness to move Hunter Pence, possibly to the Braves. With the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline looming, this is the season for rumors and speculation. Astros general manager Ed Wade has made it clear he'd be willing to entertain trade discussions with anybody and everybody. With teams such as Philadelphia and Atlanta coveting a righthanded-hitting outfielder and Boston, San Francisco, Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Detroit seeking outfield upgrades in general, [Pence] is becoming an increasingly popular topic of conversation.

That pic looks like something you'd see on his Topp's card. I got nothing else here ... Houston sux worse than my Cubbies; sad days these are man.

I would absolutely LOVE to see one of Ed Wade's trademarked "give it all to Philly cheap" trades this year, like the Oswalt trade last year.

It's about fricking time they started trading people for hopefully some decent minor leaguers. I can't believe people in Houston think this guy is a franchise player. If he is your franchise player then your team sucks.......EXACTLY

Pirates need a bat, but ownership is saying this time around they would rather spend money than give up players/prospects (We'll see about that). Beltran might be a better option if they are serious about winning now. Upcoming games against StL, Atl, and Phi wil tell.

Do you want to sign him, or date him? I can't tell.

Are you bragging about that "blockbuster" Keppinger deal? Well guess what. The Braves have Julio Lugo, so we're even.

Yeah, I agree with you. I hope the Red Sox don't get him. He'll get an immediate spark by playing on a winning team and then fizzle out shortly thereafter. (See Bay, Jason)

Bay didn't fizzle out with the Sox. He was great after the trade and then put up a monster year for the Sox. He started sucking when he left the beer league for adult sized ball parks in the NL East.

Brewers just lost Carlos Gomez for a bit. Pence could help.

His last year in Boston, his numbers went down in the second half. He hasn't been the same since before that all-star break. Theo made the right move in not re-signing him.

BTW: Theo just got outbid. Don't bring that weak **** in here again.

Pence is not pretty to watch, he's all gangly and funny looking. But, he generally hits close to .300, will get you 20-25 HRs, he plays a good rightfield and has a good arm. He's semi close to being called a 5 tool player. Watching him, you just aren't that impressed. But the stats don't lie.

Please no Beltran... I think the Mets will ask for way too much if said team doesn't pick up his salary option. Not to mention, he'll most likely bolt after the season's over to New York/Boston if he ended up in Pittsburgh. I think Pence is a much better option, simply because of the control they would have over him. I don't think the Buccos are in the position to be trading away a boat load of prospects for a rental, they still need to be working on their farm system. In a dream scenario, they'd be interested in one of Doumit, Snyer, or Overbay to sweeten the deal. Huntington needs to find the balance between winning now and how much he mortgages the future.

not so good against lefties but kills righties

He may not be a power hitter like Pujols or an effortless natural like Josh Hamilton, but Pence is a solid player. I think his numbers would improve on a team with some protection from other good hitters around him in the lineup.
I disagree that he is bad to watch, he puts 100% into every play and is the kind of player little leaguers should watch to learn about leaving all your effort on the field.

The Asbags will trade him to Phillies for damn near nothing. They are the Phillies farm team.
