Owners tried to pull a fast one

08:04 AM ET 07.22 | In what might be an effort to shift the heavy weight of public opinion against players, owners ratified an agreement to end the lockout. What the owners agreed to in Atlanta was to ratify a proposal that they constructed. It wasn't the deal [Roger Goodell] and [DeMaurice Smith] had tentatively settled on. It was a dramatic modification of that deal, with the owners crossing out this, adding that and initialing the changes and then sliding it back on the table as if nothing at all had changed. And then to add insult to injury, they called a press conference and told the world that it's a done deal. This isn't a deal. This is only the owners once again flexing their negotiating muscles, even as they stood there smiling and complimenting Smith and all the players who sat across the negotiating table for the past three years.

Think the vote was 31-0..... or something like that... only takes 22 votes for yes to pass through.... so the unanimous vote in itself is alarming and fishy. Here kitty kitty.

Whoever wrote that article seems to be rather peeved at the owners. Not exactly fair and balanced reporting. At least the NFL channel sometimes carries CFL games.

If what is written is true, and the owners changed the wording of the agreement, then it is fair reporting.
It was the owners who started the lockout and voided the old CBA. They have a plan and they are sticking to it.

The players should not accept peanuts though, no players.. no product. I agree with you though, they are up to no good.

You bet they are. The owners expect the players to cave in, they always do. This could get real nasty now. I say let it, everybody put your cards on the table.

I am shocked that Smith hasn't been fired and disbarred by now....conflict of interest as the longer this goes on, the more he gets out of it....his actions are certainly NOT in the best interests of the players...just himself....it seems at the end, the ONLY person that will make out like a bandit is Smith...the players, fans, and owners all get screwed to benefit HIS income.

This is why the owners do not want any Court or Judge anywhere near this process.
They lose EVERYTIME and independent ruler gets involved. And NO, you may not see the books. Just trust them. Honest.

I side with nobody on this deal because in the end its a bunch of guys who have more money than most of people in this country complaining about more!
With that being said, the owners hold all the weight in these negotiations and the players are only as strong as the guy who blew through last years pay already.
If they really cared about the fans then they would lower ticket prices to their games so the average Joe could take his family of 4 without having to crack into the kids college fun.

But when it comes down to it, the owners OWN the teams which are private businesses. The players are just employees who can be replaced at any time with an abundance of talent thats chomping at the bit to play right now!

You think that all those high priced attorneys working for the owners in all this are working gratis? They are the holdup it seems because "conflict of interest as the longer this goes on, the more THEY GET out of it....THEIR actions are certainly NOT in the best interests of the OWNERS...just THEMSELVES....it seems at the end, the ONLY PEOPLEthat will make out like a bandit ARE THE ATTORNEYS FOR THE OWNERS...the players, fans, and owners all get screwed to benefit THEIR income.
Makes as much sense as your take on it. Same argument with as much worth.

Would love to hear what's happening in good ole Roger's office is morning. The lockout has definitely proven that the commissioner is solely a representative of the owners. He can never say he represents the. players again. He gets a deal done, and, if the story is correct, the owners backstabbed him just as much as they did the players.

I always forget about the attorneys! They should get a uni and pads after this is over because they are making money from these negotiations too!

except that the owners, for the most part, are intelligent and aware of the situation. They make decisions for themselves and have attys just handle the legal paperwork...but the concepts that go into contracts are FROM the owners and just written down in the correct way by the lawyers.......the players are clueless that they are being represented by someone who is just out for personal gain....it's like a lack of informed consent...they just don't know any better.
