Astros want three top prospects in return.

He ain't goin' anywhere...

This guy should bring a big return. Nobody is getting him cheap. He is signed through 2013. At 28, he is prime time.

Maybe, but he is not a rent a player. That changes what you will give for the guy.

He is eligible for arbitration after this year but cannot become a free agent until 2014.

BREAKING NEWS....hahahahaha

True. He's arb eligible and not a FA until 2014. He's going to hit .290+ and hit 20-25 HRs, plus arm and good speed. And he rarely misses games. Are you going to get that out of three prospects? Probably not.

I get frustrated with the money issue as well. But it's not about money during the trade deadline. Do you want to give up Alex White, Drew Pomeranz and maybe a Chisenhall? And we are still not guaranteed a playoff spot.

If the Phillies get him I hope that they trade Ibanez to them as part of it. This guy has basically had one half of one season that has been good.

QUOTE(#8):

He sure the hell is. A team like Philly would likely be happy to trade a Domonic Brown and a Vance Worley with a prospect for a proven guy like Pence with his skills at his age. All they've got they can rely on in the outfield going forward is Victorino, and he's already 30. I'd be shocked if they brought back Ibanez next season. A Pence/Victorino/Mayberry outfield would look pretty good in Philly for the next five years. Not to mention the Indians, Pirates and a dozen other teams who would be vastly improved with the addition of Pence. He's elsewhere by close of business next Sunday.

The Braves have the prospects, so although I haven't heard a lot of noise about it, he would fit in nicely in leftfield and be able to play rightfield when Heyward is out of the lineup. He's affordable, although his arbitration eligibility will no doubt push his numbers up. The Braves have one more year of Chipper Jones' and Derek Lowe's contracts, so I think this could work out with the team budget, although next year may be a squeeze. I would imagine the Braves would need to rid themselves of Lowe's contract this winter to make it work. Or, maybe Chipper will retire.

He strikesout a lot.

July 24, 2011  01:38 PM ET

If not for the Astros, the Cubbies would be in last place.

*strikes out a lot*

Disagree. 100X a year is small potatoes these days for a middle of the lineup hitter. There are plenty of guys in the vicinity of 150+ K's.

Adam Dunn has something like 130 already.

The White Sox signed him to be a good influence in the clubhouse.

To make others in the lineup feel better about themselves?

there is no way a team in rebuilding mode would take ibanez in any pence deal that would be moving backwards but i wouldnt be surprised if he went to philly. ed wade has been giving the phillies all of the astros best (lidge, oswalt, bastardo) and got nothing in return
