05:38 AM ET 07.25 | After helping the White Sox complete a 5-3 trip Sunday, Edwin Jackson wasn't surprised when he was informed the Cardinals were interested in acquiring him before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline. He's a free agent after this season, and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that the Cardinals and Sox were engaged in talks, with the Sox interested in center fielder Colby Rasmus and the Cardinals seeking Jackson or left-handed reliever Matt Thornton and a minor-leaguer.

Why not Buerle for Rasmus in a straight trade?

I've come to the conclusion that Rasmus is either over-rated or he just can't perform under LaRussa. Either way it doesn't work at the MLB level. Stars can perform no matter what the circumstances. Other teams like him so I'd still rather not trade him for a half year rental like Jackson.

It's gonna be Matt Thornton and a prospect for Rasmus. Count it.

Cards need bullpen help more than they do in the rotation.

I wouldn't take Buerle. Jackson OR Thornton without some serious additions. None of them would be an upgrade

McClellan has been a well below average starter. I'd rather see the Cardinals get a well established starter who can go deep into games and send him back to the bullpen where he was extremely good.

Carpenter, Garcia, and Loshe give them a very solid 1-2-3 punch though. That would be very effective in the postseason. I think they'd be better off adding Thornton to the pen than Buerhle in the rotation. But that's just me.

No training...but need to play catch-up from being out sick on Friday and also have 4 meetings spread throughout the day.

Good weekend for the Sox, both Red and White.
