Smith's deal more than a year with Niners?

08:03 AM ET 07.26 | Alex Smith sounds like a guy who's ready to jump right back into the mix in San Francisco. When the NFL lockout officially lifts and he is allowed to sign a contract, he will return to the 49ers for a seventh season. "I'm not going to wait for anything," he said, "I'm sure it'll be pretty quick. I'm sure it'll move fast. It's pretty well set in stone, I think." When asked if his expected one-year deal will have an option for a second season, Smith answered, "I'm not going to get into that stuff until it's officially signed." Smith emerged as a 49ers leader this offseason, organizing get-togethers for offensive players to learn the new West Coast system playbook that coach Jim Harbaugh is bringing back to the 49ers.

Which makes our struggles even more frustrating. Harbaugh is the smartest coach we've had in while. Hopefully, Smith is just a stop gap this year. I'm serious, no more of this fool.

I sincerely hope we go 1-15 next season. 1 win, just so we aren't a complete embarassment. But we'd still get the #1 overall pick, to pair Harbaugh with Luck again. That would be ideal. Can you say, "Championship!"?

Luck's going to be a senior academically this upcoming year. No reason for him to go back to Stanford for a 5th season. Especially if he was given to play in the NFL for the coach that recruited him in high school.
