08:11 AM ET 07.26 | Boston is a team in transition, with Rajon Rondo the key to that transition. The Celtics took a lot of heat for the [Kendrick Perkins] deal which affected their chemistry and changed their starting lineup in the middle of the season. ... Rondo refused to use injuries as an excuse for losing in the second round of the playoffs to the Miami Heat. But he also believes the trade of Perkins, his closest friend on the team, affected the Celtics "more than it should have." "It wasn't like the man passed away or something," Rondo said. "I think we put too much emphasis on it. It's a business. He got traded. He's very happy where he's at. We still talk and I'm always going to have his back. It shouldn't have affected us the way it affected us."

No shhhytte - That and father time plus your sometimes hesitancy to pull the trigger.

I think the main reason the Cs let Perk go was that they weren't going to sign him in the off-season. That was a tough call. If they don't re-sign Green -- that wasn't the right move.

Perkins didn't look very good in the playoffs -- at least the series vs. the Nuggets. He had a lot of trouble with Nene in that series.

No Rondo. You lost to the Celtics because your team is old and can't defend with ferocity like you used to. Now if you had Perkins you may have won the series but still wouldn't get far. However if you claim you couldn't get over the trade mentally that's a lame excuse. Unwanted things always happen in life and if y're going to use than as excuse to underachieve I'm sorry for your destiny... get smart, wisen up and be strong so you don't end up like Lebron.

During their run, the Cs go thru bigs like a Mack Truck thru tires. Perkins absence hurt, but its not a given he stays healthy through his contract. I believe this was a major factor behind the transaction.

In fairness, he was broken. His arm was basically attached with ducktape

Ugh yeah - I remember seeing the replay of that injury - Arm looked stretched like "Gumby Damnit"...

QUOTE(#9):

Their run? Boston has been to the Finals twice but only won with Perkins. The Finals that they lost may have been due to Perkins absence. The Celtics were a better team with Perkins as the O'Neil duo was clearly not the answer. The Celtics received two players in the trade; one of which is already gone. There is no guarantee that Green will resign so Boston could end up with nothing. Boston screwed up.

My point is that Perkins may not stay as healthy through his next contract. So, this remains to be seen. As for Green, he is a restricted free agent. Green ain't going nowhere.

Injury or no injury... Perkins reminds me of Oakley. Whenever he's on the court some things don't happen and some other things will be done right. Talk of rebounding, blocking out and closing the lane to penetrators and driveby wishers....

I like Perk and the Cs took a step back when they traded him. Now, whether they take two steps forward from here depends on a lot of factors. Just saying, I get why Ainge made the trade.
