Twins send Cuddyer to hill in debacle

The Twins' starting five has accounted for only 20 innings in its most recent turn through the rotation, yielding 38 hits and 22 earned runs for a ghastly 9.58 ERA. ... So battered was the staff that jack-of-all-trades Michael Cuddyer diversified his resume yet again when he fulfilled a major league dream by pitching a scoreless eighth inning trying to mop up this bloody mess. Cuddyer, who now has played every position except catcher and shortstop during his eight-year big league career, became the first Twins position player to pitch since John Moses on July 31, 1990, against California. Despite loading the bases on a pair of hits and a walk, Cuddyer, whose fastball was clocked at 88 mph, escaped with his 0.00 ERA intact.
