08:29 AM ET 07.26 | Alexei Yashin is still in the books on Long Island, but he may soon be on the roster. [Yashin] is working out at the team's training facility in Syosset, L.I., and is in negotiations with the team on a possible new contract, Yashin's agent Mark Gandler confirmed to The Post yesterday. Gandler said there has been no advancement in negotiations over the weekend since the story was first reported in Newsday on Friday. Although he would not discuss the details of the proposed arrangement, Gandler said he's having ongoing conversations with Islanders general manager Garth Snow about bringing the 37-year-old Yashin back. Snow was not immediately available for comment.

Thank god I can now focus on the Jets and not the Isles off-season. It's killing me!!

they just can't stand NOT being the laughing stock of the league, so they HAD to make this happen. What a bunch of losers.

As I've said before, the Isles are looking to bring back in a guy that broke into their house, slapped their wife around, kicked their dog & then pried the candy out of their little kid's hand.
How you can bring back a piece of garbage that insulted you like that is unbelievable to me.

Like I was saying yesterday. If they can just give him one lump sum, include his buyout years/money and be done with it, it helps the Isles reach the cap floor. I just don't know if it's within league rules to restructure his buyout.

For the sake of all those young good players on the Isles, keep this guy so far away from your team. Are they nuts. This guy will teach all the youth how to pout until you get your money then never live up to it. This guy had all the talent in the world and only cared about his cash.

I sure hope Garth hears you. I mean, the guy was never a team player. Just because he put up some points, they gave him the captaincy. He was the furthest thing from a Captain.
Russian players have a hard time shaking the 'lazy' stigma because of guys like Yashin.

Yeah I wasn't 100% sure if they could restructure. With his $2.2M Cap hit, they'd have to pay him an additional $8M to reach cap floor.
I think I'd vomit if they did that, then paid him another $2.2M the remaining 3 years on his buy out.
I might vomit anyway.......

I've always maintained that Garth got lucky with his so called "genius" moves. He made the right choice with some top picks, honestly that aint rocket science. He got lucky claiming Grabner off waivers. The kid couldn't make the roster in FLA. Who would've guessed he would have blown up the way he did. Garth's been lucky that's all.
Picking up Nabby on re-entry waivers after trading away your top goalie was a dumb-ass thing to do, not to mention a dick-move. That he is even entertaining the idea of giving Yashin another contract absolutely proves that his head is waaaaaaaaay up his ass.

Somehow, I'm not feeling quite so bad about the Jagr signing. I'm sure that will change, tho.

If nothing else we'll be able to say, "At least it isn't Yashin."

it's a good theory, but so far I haven't heard anyone pronounced anything as to what the ramifications of re-signing Yashin are. He could very well be receiving 2 paychecks; 1 as a buy-out and 1 for his player salary!
Let's be honest about Yashin, he's a **** that only cares about money. Why would he come back to Long Island unless he had something to gain from it?
