Tebow a long way from starting

07:41 AM ET 07.29 | Rut-roh. Kyle Orton not only remains the Broncos' starting quarterback, the first training camp workout of the 2011 season [Thursday] showed that Tim Tebow is a long way from giving the incumbent much competition. Orton was his usual polished self, always knowing which of the receivers was open, and hitting them with precision. The Orton-Brandon Lloyd connections down the field picked up where they left off in 2010. Tebow got just as many reps, but was a tick slower in reading how the play developed and his passes weren't nearly as precise. "We've got to work on some timing with certain things, but for a first day, I thought it was pretty good," Tebow said. Orton's closest competitor [Thursday] was veteran Brady Quinn.

Not that pic again!

No one cares.

Orton's closest competitor was Brady Quinn?

That's the nicest think anyone's had to say about Quinn in a long time.

"Orton's closest competitor [Thursday] was veteran Brady Quinn."

If this is true, do you really think the Bronkeys will trade Orton?

And it really sounds strange to hear the term "veteran" associated with Quinn.

Rut-Roh!

Seriously, Denver Post?

Of course Orton knows which receivers were open and Tebow didn't. At Florida, if his primary receiver wasn't open, and he didn't immediately find his second, he called his own number and ran. That might work in college, and (occassionally) in the CFL, but not in the NFL.

Burn that pic already!!! Someone at TnR hates us, there can be no other explanation to their constant posting of this pic :[

On this we are in full agreement

Tebow has to be allowed to make mistakes and develop. Bronco fans have to know that there is truly no way they will win the Super Bowl this year.

"Veteran Brady Quinn" they just give that title now and days.

July 29, 2011  08:48 AM ET

Trade Orton to Miami, let Tebow start all year. realize how much he sucks.. tank your whole season, and draft Andrew Luck.

After your rookie year you get to become a veteran. Maybe rookie status should extend till your rookie contract is up. Then you can classify the rookies as 1-5 star rookies depending on the playing time. At the end of their rookie contract you can see what they contributed and see if they make it to the next level of veteran.

What happened to Tebow Time? haven't seen him in a while

Do with Tebow what the 49ers are going to do with Jeremiah Masoli, take a ex QB with far more running skills than passing and make him a situational running back. It has been done many times with players, moving them to positions other than what they played in High School and College.

I think the headline should read "Tebow a long way from producing."
Because we all know he's one Orton-trade away from starting.

The trouble with that plan is that they could get out-tanked by half a dozen teams in this league.

At least (I think) we're done with Academic Goodell for a while. So that's some sign of progress.

Sounds like Denver wants too high a draft pick and Orton wants too big a contract for Miami. Reality is about to come crashing down on Denver.

Here's the plan: Orton as the starter; Tebow and fans unhappy; draft Andrew Luck next year.
