07:53 AM ET 07.29 | While the Pirates search for possible trade partners, a shakeup to the current lineup is in the offing, too. Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said Thursday that if starting first baseman Lyle Overbay does not start producing at the plate, he will find himself out of a job. Hurdle made it clear that Overbay, 34 and one of the most experienced players on the team, is running out of time. Overbay, a left-handed hitter, was supposed to provide some power, but he was 2 for 17 in the five games before last night and has not driven in a run since July 16. ... Hurdle said that there is a learning curve for younger players, so the team can be a little patient with them when they struggle, but a veteran such as Overbay doesn't get that luxury.

Tell it like it should be Hurdle!!!!!!

Hurdle has done a good job this year. Of all the surprise teams this year the Pirates have been the most consistant. Hopefully it will generate some fan interest.

Right now they are bringing them in.

They have had all sell outs or near sell outs since the 4th of July weekend.

I like Overbay, and defensively he's pretty good, but he just hasn't been able to hit. The problem is Garret Jones isn't exactly belting them out either and he is the person most likely to take over if they get rid of Overbay.

If they don't get a trade or signing, the Bucs will likely platoon Steve Pearce with Overbay and maybe give a AAA youngster or two (like Matt Hague) a shot in September. They could also try Doumit at first when he's healthy, but I shudder to think how that will go.

We need to jsut let Lyle go and try and pick up Carlos Pena on the cheap!

Doumit at first is terrible. They tried it last year. For some reason, the guy has no defense and can't catch, this is surprising to me because he's a catcher.

Regarding attendance, I read that its up about 40% from last year; averaging about 3-4000 more fans per game.

Lyle "Overpaid" has been dragging all year. He's good defensively but just can't seem to hit this year, while Garrett Jones has some offensive upside with no defense... may they can combine the two for a serviceable first baseman?

The pirates will be allright when Tabitha and Presley get off the disabled list. Overbay needs to be let go.

Overbay says that Hurdle is just trying to the the "Mr. Pirate" title away from him because he's jealous!

Apoligize for not being up on the happenings in Pirate Land - but until I read this, I thought Overbay was out a Job...

Haven't heard word 1 about Lyle this year... And I follow baseball!

The gripping Overbay sage continues ...
