Weaver sends message over Avila's head

08:12 AM ET 08.01 | Jered Weaver didn't much care for the way Magglio Ordonez took him deep, and Alex Avila nearly paid for it. That became obvious in the seventh inning when Carlos Guillen took Weaver deep for a solo home run that made it a 3-0 game. Clearly reacting to Weaver's confrontation with Ordonez, Guillen escalated things, posing at home plate, flipping his bat away and hopping before starting his home run trot. Weaver's next pitch (after both benches had been warned about potential retaliation) was a 92-mph fastball over Avila's head. Weaver (and Angels manager Mike Scioscia) were immediately ejected. ... "I'm not going to go out there and try to hit somebody or hurt somebody. ... But what Guillen did, I'm not going to just go out there and take that."

What Guillen did definitely crossed the line, but you should never throw at somebody's head.

That being said, Weaver is still a beast. I could only dream of a team with Weaver and Verlander as the 1-2 starters. That would be ama-effing-zing.

If anybody deserved to get drilled this weekend, it was Matt Holliday. What a bush league slide that was. And the Cubs did nothing to protect their SS.....PATHETIC.

And I still don't get why everybody was pissed off about Aybar trying to bunt in the 8th inning of a no-hitter. It's a close game and I can't hit the dang ball and get on, so why not try and bunt? I can understand if the other team is up big and you try and bunt just to end the no-hitter, thats bull... but in a close game, I want my team to do whatever it takes to win the game.

Funny, Sammy Sosa used to pose and hop after every HR and everybody thought he was cute...must have been that sweet and cuddly personality ("F my teammates!!").

But Maggs didnt do a thing. The man NEVER hits HR's anymore and the damn thing almost bounced off the foul pole. If Weaver had turned around to actually see how close it was he woulda figured out Maggs old ass was just making sure. Mags never "posed with the White Sox" in his prime or with detroit. Weaver then kept barking at Maggs to run faster- and didt the same after he flew out. Guillen took it too far true- but like he said in the interview afterwards- "if you dont show my teamates respect- I wont either"... and he didnt.
Verlander and the bunt thing? who cares- Verlander dominated that team beginning to end. He has more no hit stuff every day than almost anyone playing on any active roser this season. Thats the 3rd game he has taken into the 8th just this season. Its fine- get over it. Tigers won- thats what mattered.
He bested Weaver as well.
But Aybar treating him like a catcher and throwing him an elbow was ridiculious. I look forward to Verlander breaking a few of his ribs with a 101 fastball next season.
...Cause you know he will. LOL!

Only a true Cards fan would say that wasn't a bush league slide. He **** kicked him in the leg as he went by. And he must have real long arms if you think he could have touched 2nd base.

Along with Weaver IMO. He acted like Josh Beckett.

don't mind Lou, he would think the play was fine if Holliday was carrying a handgun with him.

agreed. throwing at a man's head that had nothing to do with it was not good. Guillen stoking a fire also looked bad. Ordonez, in my opinion, was looking to see if the ball was fair or not.
