08:02 AM ET 08.02 | Larry Fitzgerald, who repeated Monday that his preference is not to leave Arizona, may soon be given the chance. General Manager Rod Graves planned to reopen negotiations with Fitzgerald's agent Monday and thinks an agreement can be reached before the season starts Sept. 11. "If Larry is sincere about his willingness to remain here, then I believe we'll get a deal worked out before the start of the season," Graves said. "He says he is (sincere), and I believe him. A lot will be said for that once we enter into our talks." Fitzgerald's agent, Eugene Parker, said last week he is ready to talk whenever the Cardinals are. Parker did not return phone messages Monday. Fitzgerald is in the last year of a four-year, $40 million deal.

Man, this guy can just pluck the Benjamis off the money tree now. I say Dallas for no reason other than I'm hungover and it just seemed like the first thing that came out of my throbbing head.

Fat Albert's got a court date on the sexual assault thing coming up later this month. I wonder if that's part of the trade deal with Washington. He could do some time, although I think it's unlikely, and Jolly Roger could slap him with a suspension, too.

"Cards want Fitzgerald locked up by season"
Given the level of thuggery in the NFL, do you really ever want to use the phrase "locked up" in this forum?

They'll tag him next year, if they can't come to an agreement. After that, his options will be limited with the new cap requirements. The new salary floor will mean that no team, regardless of how cheap they are, will have a lot of room under the cap.

By my count, that is about the 39th "QB of the Future" they have had since moving to Arizona.

Probably true. His chances of getting a Super Bowl ring in Arizona went out the door with Warner.

Whoever ends up getting him will do stupid accounting tricks and do what it takes to get in under the cap.
