Why it's make-or-break in Philly

08:03 AM ET 08.03 | The pressure is on Juan Castillo. [Castillo] will have no margin for error. This is a win-now season for the Eagles. The defense is going to have to be better than it was last year, or all this "Dream Team" talk is going to replace "Gold Standard" as shorthand for disillusioned Eagles fans. Castillo knows where the bar is set. "This is a championship defense," he said Monday. "We're trying to work on a mindset. We're trying to get something across about being an intimidating defense. I want the whole defense to know how it feels just to intimidate somebody."No doubt that's the kind of confidence that sold Reid on trusting Castillo with this job. The season rides on their both being right.

With the talent these clowns have, if they don't win it all Andy Reid should be fired. Of course, I thought he should have been fired 3 years ago.

Practice involves a buffet table in the end zone, Andy Reid at the 50 yard line, and the defense in between.

They haven't stopped him yet. Not even when the put out the scrimmage defense, the special teams guys and a batallion of Pennsylvania National Guardsmen.

First Two Words: "The Pressure"

August 3, 2011  08:30 AM ET

All that money on additions for the defense and their new Defensive Coordinator has never held that post at any level. For the last 15 years he's been an offensive assistant with the Eagles ............ how does that make him qualified to be the DC?

It's like having the best Pit Crew and car in NASCAR and letting Mr. Magoo drive.........

You lost us with the Nascar analogy.

Down the stretch it was the Eagles offense that disappeared ( that would be Andys forte and baby ) they score 14 vs Minn, 13 vs the cowboys and 16 vs the packers in that playoff game.

Mr. Magoo didn't see it, either.

For all the upgrades, the Eagles still have an Achilles heel: Vick. If he gets injured, which happened last year, the offense goes in the tank. People need to be talking more about the O-line and the protection it can give him.

38th and 39th words "Dream Team".

I think it's unfounded but if someone had bet you 3 or 4 years ago that a team quarterbacked by Michael Vick would have the moniker "Dream Team" attached to it you and I would have taken that bet in a minute. Philly doesn't seem to deal with disappointment well. Someone should inform Juan their fans are on the level of crazy that South American soccer fans are.

exactly - Vick will not play all 16 games, that is my prediction ...

And if they believe Vince Young is adequate replacement then this will be an exciting winter watching the Philly fans pelt their own team.

I agree... Reid has everything in place...

They got a pro-bowl sack man, corner and a superbowl champion defensive tackle.

Add in Brown as a backup as well as Young and this team has ZERO excuses to NOT win it all.

Their linebackers are less than desireable and Babin can be run on easily...so, taking the ball to the ground or working players over the middle seems to be the early prescription in beating them.

Vince Young is a total wild card. Other teams will have to prepare for him, too, not knowing what might come off the bench. He could fall on his face or light the place up.

One thing's for certain, though. We WILL see VY in action this season.

Everyone is going to be on a seek and destroy mission with Mike Vick. Rattle him or take him out and that's a large chunk of what they do nullified.

Word on that, their fans can turn on them in a heartbeat.

Recall who it was that called the Iggles a "Dream Team" and then ask yourself why anybody would take him seriously. I'm sure you'll reach the right conclusion.
