Martz sees the light

08:01 AM ET 08.03 | The following storyline should give Jay Cutler a small measure of relief. [In] his first remarks since the loss to the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship game, [Mike Martz] said Tuesday that, "If you start throwing the ball more than 35 times [in a game], it's usually not good." Skepticism aside, the indication here are that Martz had learned from some significant miscalculations last season and may be willing to build the kinds of ground-based game plans that were crucial to the Bears reaching the conference title game (where Martz reverted to pass-first course, with predictable results). Indeed, the Bears were 2-5 when Martz called more than 35 pass plays (attempts + sacks, but not including QB scrambles).

"Martz called more than 35 pass plays (attempts + sacks, but not including QB scrambles)."
Wow, Martz actually called plays that involve the quarterback getting sacked? I guess that's one statistic he did pretty well at.

All these years Martz has been running this popcorn offense, he finally realizes throwing that much isn't good?

"He sees the light"?
As a long time Bears fan I see a light as well. My light involves the John Shoop offensive juggernaut years. 5 yard quick routes and screen passes galore. Maybe Martz doesn't own a television and hasn't been privy to watching his newly aquired weapon play in Dallas the last few years. Melman and I might be exposed to a very long season.

Based on how many times Cutler was sacked last year I don't think it's that far fetched.
It was kind of a football rope-a-dope. But Cutler was usually just knocked dopey.

There once was a fellow named Cutler
With a lady who could pose for Hustler
While sipping a Molson
And pining for Olsen
His girlfriend ran off with the butler
