Flynn the next big QB payday

08:00 AM ET 08.04 | Based on the going rate for a mostly unproven QB these days, the Packers may be sitting on a gold mine. Next season, Matt Flynn could be one of the hottest quarterbacks on the market. An impressive cameo appearance against the New England Patriots skyrocketed his value. The Packers could certainly get some value for the backup before he's a free agent if they so choose. For now, that's speculation. Flynn says he's focused on one thing only. "I need to show that I'm continuing to grow as a quarterback, that I'm improving and playing better than I did the last preseason and playing better than I did against New England last year," Flynn said. "I'm looking to show that I'm not just staying the same."

Smart man.

And lets not forget the Aaron Rogers concussion issue. He could get his bell rung again this year!

Worked for Kevin Kolb...

You've not seen nothing like The Mighty Flynn.

This guy did play well in relief of Rodgers last season. Still, a team with legitimate SB aspirations has to have some depth at quarterback. Remember, in 2009 Aaron Rodgers was the most sacked quarterback in the league.

So, is he going to be the next Matt Cassel, or the next Kevin Kolb?

Backup QB's that are ready for the next step are becoming more attractive than College QB's.

Is Mr. Beck ready for the next big step?

Shanny said he puts his reputation on him....

We'll see.

Shanny's rep is safe. Unfortunately, it's his rep as a coach who can't win anything with QBs not named Elway. sigh.

Where's Aaron?

That is a very good point Otis.

Concussion...out for the season, the question is where's Waldo?

Solid depth across the board and building from within are how the Pack does business. They'll keep Flynn as long as they can and then let him go make his money. Next man up.

It's the blueprint for a backup QB... you can either get a Matt Schaub... or a Scott Mitchell... or a Gus Freotte... or a Kevin Kolb (TBD)...

August 4, 2011  09:30 AM ET

He looks promising, but let's not forget he looked good in one game and played a team that was probably overlooking him coming in.

August 4, 2011  09:35 AM ET

OK FN you can give us a picture of Flynn. but you can't give us a new Tebow or Gooddell ETC....

August 4, 2011  09:37 AM ET

This is getting ridicious!

Careful, They started that sort of singing about Brady Quinn and look where it got him!

Green Bay's #3 QB, Graham Harrell, holds numerous NCAA records, and was a Heisman finalist. If the Packers trade Flynn, they still have a solid back up for Rogers.

Then who will back up Rodgers the next time he gets a concussion?
