Bucs GM lowers expectations gently

08:02 AM ET 08.04 | Sorry, Bucs fans, the news doesn't get much better in this season of the free agent bonanza. Buccaneers fans disappointed with what the team has done in free agency so far this year probably won't like its plan regarding the open market going forward either. Though he didn't close the door on the idea completely, Bucs general manager Mark Dominik said Wednesday that there is little chance he'll delve any deeper into free agency. "In terms of free agency, I'm excited to see what the 90 guys (that we have in camp now) can do," Dominik said. "That's how I feel. We're going to continue to evaluate these 90 guys and that is how I will approach free agency right now." With the exception of punter Michael Koenen, the Bucs have concentrated solely on resigning their own free agents.

Good young team... they are in a tough division but seem to be on the come.

Gotta like what they're doing down there...

The team had success so re-signing them is not a bad way to go, unlike another team I know that had the worst defense they ever put on the field and continue to re-sign the same guys.

Word. They have a good young core of players and seem to develop some chemistry last season.

There's something to be said for maintaining your core and solidifying it.

Having said that, am I the only one wondering why we haven't heard from TO?

I, for one, am enjoying not hearing about him. I wish he'd just retire like Moss.

The Bucs finished 10-6 last season . I think they make the paly-offs this year.

Could be, but they're in a division with two legitimate playoff teams already, and there are three or four other NFC who will be looking for wild cards.

Or vanish like D.B. Cooper.

We should be so lucky!

QUOTE(#9):

For some reason I see Dallas getting either Asante Samual, Braylon Edwards, or Randy Moss. I think there are still some deals out there.

Anyone they bring in on defense will be an upgrade. And btw..the other day I made a prediction here that Newman would be hurt within the first 3 games of the season. Damn...didn't even make it out of the first week of camp.

August 4, 2011  09:05 AM ET

It's not time to stand pat just yet. 10-6 is good but it won't cut it in that division.

Cowboys are $3M over the cap and have to get below it by tomorrow.

None of these guys (especially Samuel) are coming here.
