08:37 AM ET 08.07 | Friday night, Bears fans were dragged into a decades long dispute over the condition of the Soldier Fied turf, when the annual Family Fest practice was canceled because unwatered sod was separating and deemed unsafe for players. "It's a joke," Brian Urlacher, the Bears' star linebacker, said Saturday. "I don't understand (why) they can't have the field ready. It sucks for the fans because I'm sure it was a pain in the butt to get down there with all the traffic and everything."

They should move to that brand new stadium in LA...

Is Urlacher ever happy? Seems like he's always b!tching about something in the media.

August 7, 2011  09:20 AM ET

they have had problems for years and Urlacker has been complaining for years and still nothing...from what I understand the city takes care of the field and not the Bears..maybe they should start calling for the fans to put pressure on the city?...you put your atheletes at risk (as a Eagles fan I remember the days at The Vet). Not a good story to have his cancelled after the NFL's lockout...bad pub...mayber Roger needs to get up in somebodies rear in City Hall...I don't know...

Another black eye for the Bears.

This is true. Soldier Field falls under the Chicago Park District. It gets used for a variety of functions aside from Bears games.

I look forward to the Bears / Eagles rematch in November. Soldier Field cost Philadelphia at least two touchdowns last year.

I was watching players slip, fall and trip over clumps of sod all game.

I'll be nice and downgrade that number to one touchdown.

The rematch will be in Philadelphia.

Why can't they keep the field in good condition there?

It's summer time...

I think the local 4-H uses it to practice tilling the soil.

Exactly, if their field is unplayable in August, what's it gonna be like come October? If I was a player I'd be a little concerned as well.

I'm not a fan of artifical turf. But if they can't keep their grass in playable condition, they should look for something more durable.

No excuse for shoddy sod.
