Posada not happy with new role

08:09 AM ET 08.08 | There are sadder endings, of course, but that doesn't make it any easier for Jorge Posada. [Joe Girardi] spoke with Posada Sunday, informing him that he was not going to be the designated hitter against Josh Beckett Sunday night, or against any righthanders for that matter -- the one role that had belonged to the Core Four member throughout this roller-coaster season. "He said he was going to put the best lineup on the field, and he doesn't know when I'm going to DH again," Posada said before the Yankees lost, 3-2, to the Red Sox in 10 innings. "So right now I'm sitting on the bench. I'm not happy about it, but right now I can't do nothing about it. I put myself in this situation. I've just got to keep on working."

They were doing him a favor by letting him be on the team this year.

Cashman is starting to make comments about what those jughandle ears would be good for to try to scare Posada away.

Seems like he is handling this exactly the way he should be handling it. Posada recognizes that he is being benched because of his poor performance. It certainly isn't like Girardi failed to give him an opportunity to turn things around. Now Jorge has to do his best to help his team while he waits for another opportunity, at which point he hopefully will make the most of it.

so now there not going to bat him against righties, and hes a LH batter, which dosent make sense for him to start against Lefties. So was this a nice way of Girardi saying "We dont need you anymore."?

He's not a position player at this point - he has zero speed - and he's not getting on base enough OR hitting with enough power to warrant a roster spot. The Yankees have given him ample time to prove this is a slump and not the end of the line - and Posada hasn't been able to do it. Thanks for the memories Jorge. Time to give Jesus a chance...

Hmmmmm....no ones ever happy sitting the bench....but...he's seems to understand he can't hit water out of a boat (neither could Chavez last night) and has accepted what he needs to do to get back in the line up.

Jorge has been a very Yankee for his entire career, and I hate to say this but it's time he rode off into the sunset.

The headline insinuates that Posada is not happy at the Yankees, yet he says "I put myself in this situation. I've just got to keep on working." Headline should read, "Posada not happy with himself"

I wish Girardi was in Detroit. Jim(Marlboro Man) Leyland always coddles and caters to the same aging vets on the Cats! Battting .220 & can't field anymore ? Come play for MM Posada

What he need to do to get back in the lineup...
Either...
1. Buy a Delorean, invent a flux capacitor - and travel back to 1998 and bring THAT Jorge back to present day...
OR
2. Have someone maim Russell Martin, Frankie C, Jesus and Austin Romine. Then maybe Jorge moves back to the top of the depth chart at C for the Yankees.
