Well - The one main benefit to the team is they have a fixed cost for his contract for the next 3 years. That's a better situation that arbitration every year where strange things have been known to happen.

I'm aware of that.

You really think he'd get significantly more than $38m ($6m signing bonus) for three years? I don't.

Then factor in the risk of injury/poor performance and I wouldn't buy out arbitration years unless it came with at least one free agency year.

Votto is a stud at 1st base. It will up to Alonso to learn either left field or 3rd base in the off-season.

I agree 100%. That extension made no sense to me.

But come 2014, Votto will be a Blue Jay. He is coming home to Toronto!

What is so good about this Alonso kid? His AAA numbers don't jump off the page.

There was talk around the deadline the Reds were trying to trade Votto and a top prospect for Bautista. The Jays weren't listening...

You'd have to have a HELLUVA first base prospect -- a "can't miss" prospect who darn well DOESN'T miss -- to move an All-Star first baseman into the outfield. No reason for it.

Agreed, but from what I've read, of the two, it's more likely that Votto would have the skills for a move to LF. That said, you'd think they'd want to trade Alonso for a piece that would help them, but, like me, the Reds' front office is pretty aware of the fact that they've only got Votto for another two years.

not matter who the reds bring up to the majors or what they really do about their lineup, a team with this type of attitude can't win pennants, or championships!!!

Anyone named "Yonder" should be playing in left field.
