Johnson moves Georgia Tech to a hotel

08:20 AM ET 08.10 | Tyler Melton only joked that he's living in a penitentiary. After two years of staying in a dormitory during preseason camp, coach Paul Johnson has his players bunking in a nearby hotel because the school's on-campus housing couldn't accommodate the team this year. Tech also stayed in a hotel in 2008, Johnson's first season. Buses pick them up in the morning and drop them off at Bobby Dodd Stadium, and they reverse the process in the evening. ... "It's just all football, all the time," Melton said. "It's like the Twilight Zone." Johnson would contend that's the point. "I think it's good to put 'em all together," Johnson said. "They're easier to keep track of." Thanks to a discounted rate at a nearby Marriott property, the final bill will be roughly $70,000.

Ah come on VFH. As a new AD you gotta figure out a way for it to at least appear they are for cleaning rooms. Press spin!

It's not going to matter because no Division 1 prospect wants to play this Division 2 offense. Mediocre is the destiny of this team as long as Johnson is the coach. To Johnson's credit they will not be on the front page nor will make headlines on the sports page.

Paul Johnson = hotseat?

Better make sure there is no NCAA rule violation!!! And I'm not saying that to pick on GT, but that you never know when some kind of violation pops up.

Careful, the maids sometimes sue after certain activities occur. Just ask that French ex-banker in NYC.

IMO, the rulings agaisnt GT are ridiuculous. It's like they are gettting serious punishment from taking candy from a baby. Other teams like Ohio St and UNC have done things far worse and are not getting punished. I'm not a Gt fan, in fact they are one of Clemson's main rivals. But, GT is getting shafted.

I agree. Johnson had huge success with that option offense at Navy, but now that he's at a school that should be able to attract truly elite players (no knock on Navy here), Johnson needs to evolve his offense into something more dynamic.

That offense will only be as good as the QB, same as it is with any offense for that matter. Air Force and Navy have probably had their best passers in recent history, and their offenses showed the benefits. The same will apply to GT. When they get a guy that can legitimately throw for 55%, then the offense will be truly special.
