Latest Michigan coach rumor

The latest out-of-the-blue name to surface in the Michigan coaching hunt? Delaware's K.C. Keeler. That's according to a CSTV report -- which Keeler is denying -- that he is being "heavily considered" for the Michigan job. Who is K.C. Keeler? Well, kind of a Les Miles-light.

And the chuckles get louder from columbus.

I'm starting to think if I was offered this job I would turn it down.

December 13, 2007  10:41 AM ET

This is the first "rumor" that actually has some amount of sense behind it in a long time.

However, he is a system guy and I'm sick and tired of hearing about system guys. I want a guy who simply uses talent in whatever formation or system is required to get the most out of them on any play, quarter, game or season. There's only one goal - win. I could care less how you get that done, but being stubbornly stuck in 1 system is a surefire way to lose some games that you could have won with some creative thinking.

December 13, 2007  10:51 AM ET

I hope this is all a smokescreen.

December 13, 2007  11:10 AM ET

Kraz, every coach is a system guy. Without a system you simply cannot win on a regular basis. Should every school run the spread offense, probably not. Not every school will be successful in the I-formation. You can't run multiple systems with any team. You have to work hard to get the players to play one system well, let alone two or three.

A smokescreen? Well, someone up there is smoking something.

December 13, 2007  11:20 AM ET

Yeah, a "smokescreen" because the real dealing is being done away from the media circus. I am hoping that MICH athletics might be playing its cards more cleverly that is apparent. Delaware, for chrissakes.

Deleware and Mich. do kinda have the same uniform pattern...

At least the helmets won't faze him.

December 13, 2007  12:34 PM ET

Well he has to come and get hired as LSU's head coach first. After all, ESPN emphasizes that Michigan's next coach will be LSU's present and anyone saying or doing anything to the contrary must, de fecto, be a "liar" (their word, not mine).

Why did I bother even reading this one?

It seems like absolutely nobody wants this job. It's not as bad as Notr... oops. Forgive me Touchdown Jesus, for I have sinned.

And the chuckles get louder from columbus.

These are the ridiculous little bits we will go through until Miles finally signs on the dotted line the second or third week of January. No way is Keeler a D-1A coach just yet, let alone at Michigan.

December 13, 2007  02:33 PM ET

Hey, if it worked for OSU, why not michigin

December 13, 2007  03:04 PM ET

One name I am kinda surprised has not surfaced is former Colorado and UM assistant Bill McCartney

December 13, 2007  03:57 PM ET

Why don't they get the "Fab Five" back to coach the football team? They were "legends in their own minds...!"
