Don't expect the Cardinals to look good

08:04 AM ET 08.11 | Ready or not, here come the Cardinals. Even in normal seasons, the NFL's preseason is meant for immature football audiences, but the 2011 version figures to be special in that way. When the Cardinals meet the Raiders Thursday night, chances are it will look like a game between two teams that have practiced for only a week. "I know at times it probably won't look pretty," Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt said. ... Only half of the 22 starters have secure jobs, and many of the ones who do will be playing together for the first time. On offense, only five starters from last year are in their same positions. A handful of new starters, including quarterback Kevin Kolb, tight end Todd Heap and guard Daryn Colledge have a week's experience in the system.

From the "tell me the obvious" department. Thank you.

Have we ever? lol.

They could've fielded every one of last year's starters and still looked like crap. At least they have an excuse this way.

Beat me to it.

No worries!

The Cardinals are the cause of this week's stock market volatility. Certainly can't blame it on the high-quality people pretending to run the country, can we?

We return now to the St. Paul Pioneer Press for the latest on Bert...

Fitz better be ready to carry this team.

"Suck for Luck" starts tonight.

Only once have the Cards had double digit wins in the last 30 years, with just 4 trips to the playoffs.

I'm pretty sure "Don't expect the Cardinals to look good" is their motto.

Although as stated, "Suck for Luck" could catch on ............

Right.... Isn't this the same for about every team?

Arizona probably will play just good enough in their weak **** division to fall out of the Luck race.

Having already bet the ranch on Kevin Kolb, they probably figure they don't need Luck. So they will probably try to be good, which, as you've pointed out, will get them enough wins to take them out of the sweepstakes.

Yup with the money they just forked over to Kolb they pretty much have to give him at least 2 seasons no matter how he does.

After the way they underpaid for the performance they got out of Warner, karma was bound to catch up to them sooner or later.

Whisenhunt is funny, he made it sound as if anyone was expecting anything other than abject failure out of the Cards, or their division for that matter.

I'd like to see the Rams do something good. They get no national exposure, and it would be fun to see Bradford develop as a QB. He could be the best of the young crop out there.

I like the Whiz, but you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear. And don't worry, not too many people expect the Cardinals to look good.

August 11, 2011  11:23 AM ET

I wasn't aware anyone did expect them to look good.

I don't expect to cringe when Kolb throws the ball as much as I did when Anderson threw it, the only QB who needed a seeing eye dog.
