08:01 AM ET 08.12 | Maybe Eddie George's campaign worked. The Titans are ready to make Chris Johnson the highest paid running back in NFL history when he reports to training camp, General Manager Mike Reinfeldt said [Thursday]. Johnson, meanwhile, said he is still waiting on an offer. ... Reached by phone this afternoon, Johnson told The Tennessean: "I am surprised at Reinfeldt's statement about offering to make me the highest paid running back. Neither me nor Joel have received any offer from the Titans at all." Asked if the Titans had offered a deal immediately after the lockout, Johnson said: "Maybe they talked, but I guarantee we never received any offer." Johnson also defended his holdout, saying he is in great shape and ready to practice.

They need to sign this guy!!! He is the franchise. Sounds to me like it could be a long holdout with both sides not communicating. Interns were late today!!!

You'll get an offer you can't refuse, Bro.

Let's see, they've already got Hasslebeck signed. Do they really need CJ?

I'd say that is a big Urlachian Swear Word YES!

Dreadz and grillz cost benjaminz.

Oohhh, I did enjoy writing that.

Talk to the Johnson.

August 12, 2011  08:38 AM ET

Screw waiting around. If the boss promised to make me the highest paid man at my job, I think I'd have my agent making a phone call.

August 12, 2011  08:39 AM ET

Make the deal already, he probably has a few grillz waiting for him on layaway waiting on this deal.

How are they expect you to show up and work in good faith prior to giving you a new contract when your current one has YEARS left on it. CJ is an idiot.

My thoughts too, but an NFL contract isn't worth the paper it is written on to either side

You know it's gonna happen....dude's hold out, get contract, come to camp....get hurt...hope not.

August 12, 2011  12:03 PM ET

Sure seems to be the pattern.

Yep people seldom realize how little is guaranteed in football except formerly for overhyped crap draft picks (purple dank anyone). Owners can cut players at will. With the short shelf life of RB, CJ needs to get his while he can I guess.

The idea of holding out is so you don't get hurt until the ink is dry. The longer the hold out, the less chance of getting a preseason injury. I think he's playing it smart. He'll get a deal done in time to play in September.

He had better hope they make him the highest paid RB, because without any help around him, they are going to run him into the ground...

OJ's first three seasons...2571 combined yards. His best season...2243 combined yards.

CJ's first three seasons...5606 combined yards. His best season...2509 combined yards.

Guess you're right.
