Time to move Kostitsyn ... pronto

08:24 AM ET 08.12 | Some things just aren't going to sit well -- taking a shot at your coach, for instance. General manager Pierre Gauthier has 21 players under contract with a couple of open spots for the youngsters to fight for in training camp. He also has more than $5 million in cap money if he feels the youngsters aren't ready and he needs to add a piece or two. But the situation has changed and, if Gauthier isn't already making calls to trade Andrei Kostitsyn, he should be. Kostitsyn's position with the team became untenable after he sounded off in an interview with a hockey web site in his native Belarus. ... "It wasn't me who started to play badly," Kostitsyn added. "It's just that I was being put into (the) third and fourth line. I've tried talking to (Martin) more than once. But he doesn't care."

One, Kostitsyn has a point. It must've made him mad to get sent to the third line or fourth with Gomez doing zilch on the second line (not that Andrei produced all that much either; he did get the odd goal from time to time though, something Gomez hasn't done in 2011 yet).

Two, even so, you don't openly criticize your coach or organization. Even if you can find people who agree with you they made mistakes.

Three, don't let the door hit you on the arse on the way out. Of course after that tirade, Gauthier can't expect to get a lot for Kostitsyn now. He still needs to move him. Anything higher than a fifth-round pick would make me ecstatic. I'd take a tweener too push comes to shove.

Four, get rid of Gomez, Pierre. Just get rid of him. Before training camp. No point prolonging the agony.

Good points all Stranger. Andre did score 20 goals last year. How that got him on the third and fourth lines I don't know. Especially since Scotty had 7 goals and was a minus 15. Purchanse someone didn't care for Andre's tude and was trying to send him a message.

I agree as well

Good points Stranger.....

I for the life of me just can't figure out what happened to Gomez. I mean he had some hands when he was with the Dev's. Maybe it was the Sather contract??? Ha!

Talk about disappearing......

or maybe the Devils' system made him look like more of a scorer than he is?

In his defense, how could he know that something he said half the world away would actually picked up on this continent!!?? But in all seriousness, who knew Belarus has reporters...let alone the internet. ;-) (Oh no, he's upset the Belarus faction on this site!)

AK-46 found out that those centers on the 3rd and 4th lines don't always pass the puck when he's open.

Gauthier won't get much for him is right but they have to do the right thing and get rid of him. Souray mouthed off and was shipped out immidiately and apologizes not accepted. The Habs better do the same thing.

Greener doesn't cut it for me.

I'll reiterate what I said on the Kovalev post the other day, I don't put any stock whatsoeve on what russian (and de facto soviet) papers write.

Either way, I can't stand Andrei's sense of entitlement and his lackluster effort. They only gave him a 1 year contract because they knew that they would not be players in free agency this year...so whatever they do with him really doesn't matter to me, although it'd be preferable to get a usable player in exchange.

Putting Gomez's putrid performance aside...the major problem is that Andrei is capable of so much more. When he decides to bear down and play HOCKEY (meaning skating 2 ways and throwing his body around (he's a surprisingly solid checker)), he can do great things...but he's a stereotypical soviet...he plays when he feels like it.
