08:37 AM ET 08.13 | Yankees general manager Brian Cashman on Friday launched an impassioned defense of supposed No. 2 starter A.J. Burnett, lashing out at the pitcher's critics and claiming reaction to his struggles are "overblown," based on the perception he is overpaid and rely on emotion rather than facts. "The stuff on A.J. is way overblown. A.J.'s been solid for us this year. I just think the way it's playing doesn't necessarily reflect how he's pitched," Cashman said. "The public outcry recently is all emotion rather than factual."

This is a repeat thread me thinks ... weekends + interns = meh

He is useless.

This guys stats are eerily similar to another $16 million dollar pitcher on a high profile team. John Lackey.

"Yankees GM defends Burnett"

An $83 million dollar contract will make a GM do that.

True, but what does that have to do with Cashman defending this P.O.S. Sounds to me like he's defending himself more than anything.

In Burnett's defense, he's nowhere near as ugly.

In Lackey's defense, the guy has a sick wife to worry about. Who knows if he'd be terrible anyway, but I've gotta cut the guy some slack. Lackey's been lucky that the Bosox have been scoring a ton of runs for him.
AJ certainly is more comely, but he also has a certain hickoid look about him that puts me off.

cashman is the one who should be on the bubble

Agreed. They're payin #2 $ for a #3. Of coarse everyone's callin him out.

Wasnt there a rumor earlier that he might be canned?

guess you did not hear or read the interview.
Cashman said " blame me " if it is about his contract. What is he supposed to say " the guy is a loser?" that would really help.

Really? it was cashman who brought in colon, garcia, martin, and wade for a total of $6 million.
EVERYONE thought when the season started the Yankees would not go far because their starting pitching was THAT SUSPECT.
he never wanted soriano and said so. finally did not go crazy in FA and/or trade away young prospects for aging one year veteran mediocre talent.
Methinks you do not like cashman because of other reasons. that is ok, but know it.

if the franchise place burnett on the bullpen? who will replace him on the ## two spot? hughes? he has as many trouble as burnett, so who will cover that spot? let's see about cc he has being horrendous on the last two outings and the way he has being pitching its a serious matter, the yankees should be worried because honestly it looks as if cc sabathia its getting tired!!!

Can we all say Carl Pavano?

It couldn't happen to a more deserving team.

But at least you don't hear Theo out there "lashing out" at the media over Lackey.
This is Cashman defending his signing of Burnett; let's face it, if he had it to do over again he wouldn't, but Burnett must need some TLC for Cashman to go public like this.

OK, I see you do not know their organizion well.
How about NOVA...a rookie. 11-4
Nunez...quite the player.
Robertson...all star..
Ah heck. wasting my time. You have no knowledge, just feelings. That is nice, you go with them. When you are done with your feelings, do some research. BBA rates their farm system in the top 10.
Thank you for proving you have no idea what you are talking about.
I do agree, they will not go far in the playoffs. Everyone knew that because of the lack of 3 top starters. The surprise is they have the third best record in MLB with the group they have and gave nothing away to do it.

If they choke in the playoffs you will hear plenty in Bean Town..

There were NO starting pitchers to be had in FA. None. Nothing better than what they had. Just more trash other teams wanted to dump. Do tell what FA pitcher was out there that would do so well that he would make a difference in the playoffs.

that trade for Granderson looks pretty good. I guess I proved my point very well.
