10:10 AM ET 08.14 | A few baseball officials seem skeptical that there will be a lot of activity between now and Aug. 31, when waiver deals can be made by contenders to strengthen their potential playoff rosters. "There seems to be a lot of blocking going on," said a National League official. "The Red Sox and Yankees have made a lot of claims, mostly to block, but they also seem to have genuine interest in acquiring a starting pitcher or a reliever if they could get to one."

anybody that needs a quality releiver should try to get Rafael Betancourt from the Rockies..can't believe anybody didn't trade for him before the deadline...one of the few bright spots here and he's had some rough outings only because the bullpen here has been horribly overworked.

Hey, I hear Psycho Zambrano is available. That is, once he's released from the witness protection program.

This is a story???
Of course the Sox and Yankees are interested in improving their post-season line-ups. What else is new.

Whatever happened to Okajima? Last I heard, he wanted to leave Boston so they demoted him to AAA. A good lefty in the 'pen- sure there's some teams that would be interested.

No, he wanted to leave Boston after they demoted him. He did a nice job for a few years, but he can't get major league hitters out anymore. Time to go back to the land of the rising sun..

It's funny how 2 of the top 3 richest teams in baseball can block waiver claims for everybody else. Interesting concept ... but part of the gamesmanship that is baseball.

IF either the Red Sox or Yankees want to upgrade the bottom of their rotation . They should call the Mets about Capuano a lefty that can do ok for either team. His contract runs till end of year so not a big contract it would be a steal for either team. I want the Mets to resign him but i am fine with a trade so we can get a prospect.

wise up:If some team or teams were to block a deal the yankees or redsox were trying to aquire a pitcher or positioned player, they would be hollering foul. These waver deals are supposed to be a gentlemen's agreement not to block a deal with someone else.
