08:08 AM ET 08.15 | To sign or not to sign David Ortiz, that will become the question. Ortiz made a decent comeback last year with 32 homers, 102 runs batted in, and a somewhat more Papi-like OPS of .899. He had some good spurts, but he just wasn't the same fearsome hitter he had been in those glory years, and everyone knew it. Theo & Co. were not exactly in a major rush to open negotiations for a contract extension as Papi entered the walk year of his contract. In fact, I would go so far as to say that most observers were having a very hard time envisioning David Ortiz as a member of the Red Sox in 2012. Most of those people -- and I am definitely one of them -- would now have a hard time envisioning him being anywhere else. But is it a lock? Only Theo knows.

Sign him.

And just who will be out there that would do better? It is a question of how many years he wants on that last contract.

The man looks like he has lost weight and worked hard to regain some of his former form. Give him a couple more years. I think it'll be worth it....

Sounds about right.

Is there a franchise and fanbase in baseball more quick to slander and expel team heroes?

Let me know when the Sox treat a team legend like the Yankees treated Bernie Williams.

You mean by not signing him? I'd be happy to point out Jason Varitek, but amusingly, the Red Sox have continued to sign him because they have no other options.

Keith Foulke, brought to the Red Sox as the final piece of a championship team, not only delivered, but propelled the Red Sox through the post season. He also sacrificed his career to do so. When his play fell off, he was scapegoated and run out of town on a rail by an ungrateful franchise and fanbase.
