Reyes won't be ready to resume

They couldn't find a pic? Seriously?

Reyes's problematic hamstrings are the #1 reason not to re-sign him (for what? $130 million over seven years? Crawford cash?). Reyes doesn't play an entire season. And his legs won't get sturdier as he ages.

I don't trust "hamstring strains". They are too hard to diagnose or confirm. SHortly before Manny's exile from Boston, he a claimed a hamstring strain but he couldn't keep straight which leg it was. Why do I think Reyes has decided to sit out the rest of his contract?

Would you sign this guy in the off season for ridiculous money with his injury track record - not me!!!

I still would. When HEALTHY, he brings a lot to the table. Speed, fielding, energy all things I'd want as a manager. I'm not saying $18M but $15-6M is justifiable even though he has a nagging leg injury- & yes this is coming from a guy that is paying Mauer $23M.

I believe he's asking for "Carl Crawford" money, a little to expensive and suspect for me.

Yet another example of the Mets (stupidly) making personnel decisions based on public relations instead of good baseball sense. They make splashes by signing free agents to too much money just because they think they need to grab a few headlines from the Yankees (e.g. Jason Bay). In this case, they refused to trade Reyes because they were worried their fans would be upset. Now the best the Mets can hope to get in exchange for Reyes is a couple of draft picks. I thought this crap would have finally ended when Minaya left.

I don't know. Even without the injury history, you're talking about a guy whose game is almost entirely predicated on speed. That indeed makes him a very fun player to watch, but I'd be reluctant to sign Reyes simply because of the length of the contract he's seeking. When he loses a step or two at the end of that contract, the Mets are not going to be paying $15+ million per year to a guy who hasn't exhibited a tremendous amount of power on which he can fall back.

On top of all that, the guy pulls his hamstring so frequently, that he doesn't even get to take advantage of his one big asset. Seems like re-signing is not the right decision for the Mets.

its doubtfull that he its trying to mock himself, plus he will love to put great numbers not just any numbers but outstanding ####,reyes will love to prove the mets and any team that he still can compete as well as anybody else!!

carlos beltran has more dificult task to prove, he remain injuried game after game on top of everything he only come to the giants just to screw the whole lineup, beltran can't hit because he still full of injuries, does anybody knows if beltran would be able to increase the price on any deal?? clearly and honestly he doesn't have anything on his favor, a deal perhaps will come but the deal will be for two years the most the price 5 millions per year!!

The Mets were absolutely right to be trade Beltran, and they should have traded Reyes too. In Beltran's case, he just hasn't been the same since his knee surgery, and he proved it by essentially admitting that he could no longer play center field. He is also much older than Reyes, so we're talking about two different situation - Beltran is looking for one more half-decent contract that essentially pay him like an above-average role player. Reyes is looking to be paid like a franchise cornerstone. His potential dictates that he get paid like one, but I don't think we'll ever see Reyes reach that potential on any kind of consistent basis.

So why didn???t they blow up the team and get some real talent?
