07:53 AM ET 08.17 | Thanks to injury, the roster of running backs in Houston is dwindling. The Texans' growing injury list was the primary topic of conversation at Reliant Stadium on Tuesday, and it started with the running backs. Though ankle injuries suffered by guards Antoine Caldwell and Kasey Studdard during Monday night's 20-16 victory over the New York Jets were more serious, the Texans have injury questions about four of their top five backs, including three sidelined with pulled hamstrings. Coach Gary Kubiak said he hopes Arian Foster (hamstring) can return to practice today and play against New Orleans on Saturday. Kubiak said Steve Slaton (hamstring) is going to miss the Saints game and didn't sound too confident about Ben Tate (hamstring) returning.

Work a trade for Chris Johnson. The titans seem to not want him.

Not a big deal right now.

I think this will be fairly common this year as a result of the lockout and shorten training camps. Players will not be in as good a shape as usual, and there will be a lot of soft tissue (muscle) injuries.

You have that right. We should also see which players get worn out more quickly too and look slow.

how many of these injuries are actually injuries and how many are the team just protecting their stable of backs knowing that throwing them into the games like this will prove to be costly?

August 17, 2011  08:16 AM ET

It's happening all over the league.

Yup, the short pre-season due to the lockout is starting to take its toll.

Somewhere, Tiki Barber is smiling.

I was thinking the same thing DD... it's Tiki time!

If Foster has a shaky hamstring, why rush him back to practice and risk him in a preseason game against an aggressive defense like NO? He knows the offense. Let the man heal for opening day.

Tike has assured teams that if they let him play he will not stab more than 5 team members in the back.

Do it in pre-season. It's a nice way to cut a guy without hurting his feelings.

They are offering him more money than any RB in NFL history. Does that sound like they dont want him? You sound like some stupid agent saying that. With Johnson missing all of camp, you can bet hes gonna injure a hammy just like all these other RBs though.

At least that'll give the Texans a good excuse for going 7-9 this season.
