08:11 AM ET 08.17 | Dan Carcillo, who not long ago made himself a public enemy in Vancouver, now may be a little less welcome in his former home. The Sun-Times cornered him for a one-on-one chat. ... Is the Philly media as tough as they say it is? "Yeah. It's ridiculous. ... If you lose, people look for excuses, and they nitpick. They make stories out of nothing. It's unfortunate. That's just the way it is. It's kind of their culture. People are kind of outspoken and rude." What do you know about the Chicago media and fans? "Not much. I know that fans are passionate, and they jumped on board since the ownership [changes] and [when they] brought in John McDonough. It's been a culture change. The players had a big part to do with that. I'm excited."

Ok he made me look. Chicago @ Philadelphia, January 5, 2012. Their only game of the season. Wish they'd meet sooner.

so I wonder what he would think of the Montreal media, if he hates the Philly media that much

They make stories out of nothing.

This is shocking news. I thought everything they had been saying about Carter and Richards were 100% true.

It's nice to know he's as smart as he looks.

The thing that's sort of mystifying about this is that Carcillo was popular here in Philly and, really, the Flyers fans are by far the most tolerant of any of the four majors here. They haven't won a Cup in 40 years and yet the Flyer Faithful still support the team day in and day out. Why he felt the need to lash out like this, I have no idea. I can't remember a single time he was treated unfairly by the media and the reality is this team was a dismal failure last season. They deserved more criticism than they got, if you ask me!

"It's been a culture change".

Danny Boy is an expert on them culture changes.

Agree completely, I go to 20+ games per year and the Flyers are treated very well. In fact he was a bit of a fan favorite and I can't remember him catching much flak at all in the media.

To me it sounds like sour grapes that he and his to buddies - Carter and Richards were shipped out.

The problem with Carcillo is that his mouth is bigger than his brain. He can't afford to have the little that he has upstairs damaged more than it already is.

He'll love the Chicago media. They know nothing about hockey. ;-)

"They make stories out of nothing." Really, Carcillo? That sounds like the vast majority of sports fans/reporters. Not to mention political news, economic news, celebrity news, etc. etc. etc. Welcome to the 21st century, Carcillo.

No, he took a parting shot at the Philly media, and he's completely right. Our media absolutely sucks and they do look to nitpick and make excuses.

As I already mentioned in post #10 above.

August 17, 2011  11:04 AM ET

Why would the fans be pissed? He trashed the media, not the fans. He was sticking up for his old teammates, and he's certainly not the first to say those things.

The media does that anywhere there is high expectation for success.

In Pittsburgh, the media was bubbling over with excitement this year because the Pirates are hovering around .500. Would you rather have that?

Exactly! And Carcillo didn't say anything about the Philly media that everybody didn't already know. If anything his comments put a knot in the jockey shorts of the Philly media, which the well deserve.

As far as the Pirates go, that old country song, "I've been down so long it looks like up to me." really applies.

I'd have to agree on this. This will have no impact on how the Flyers feel about him, will create no bad blood. All he did was criticize the Philly media, not the team itself. He's probably just still irritated at how some of his (drinking) buddies were covered by the media. The majority of the Flyers players probably agree with him.
