08:04 AM ET 08.17 | Somewhat amazing considering both his position and his age, A.J. Pierzynski hadn't seen the DL in his career. Bruce Chen strikes again. The Royals' lefty hit Pierzynski on the wrist Friday night, putting the guy leading AL catchers in batting average (.296) and games played (103) on the 15-day disabled list for the first time in his career. Is expecting Pierzynski back to make an impact in a pennant race so soon after fracturing his wrist realistic? "It is in my mind (but) there are differing camps on that," Pierzynski said. "The doctors are more concerned about me swinging than me catching. I won't really know how it feels until 10 or 12 days."

I believe a big loss for the ChiSox. One of the better personalities of the game.

It's not a big loss because of his personality. He rarely strikes out and hits in the clutch.

Didn't know this was his first DL stint. The guy's pretty durable.

i agree with B.R. -- it's great to have a few guys left in the game with genuine personalities ... love 'em or loathe 'em. And he brings it every night, by all accounts.

His posts are usually fine in my opinion. Just a bias, which is expected. I'm not saying the White Sox are making the playoffs, but mathematically, they are far from out of it.

"What goes around comes around". One of the most despised players in baseball. Sorry he's hurt but there is such a thing as "Karma"!

Thank you.
Their rotation isnt strong enough, and their lineup just doesnt have the mmph it needs right now. PK is hurt, Dunn and Rios aren't performing well and Quentin is a rubix cube. I'm not sayin they cant make it, just that I dont see them getting past Detroit.

I disagree about the rotation part. They have been pretty good since the break. They are keeping the team in practically every game, giving them a chance to win. The rest of what you said is pretty spot on.

AJ has had a great career to this point. He should be mentioned with the best catchers of the past decade. AJ has been reliable, productive and of course a gunnies instigator.
