Wilson's fate in Reimer's hands

08:12 AM ET 08.17 | As if James Reimer doesn't have enough to worry about, he can perhaps add the fate of his head coach to a list that already includes appeasing the fans of Maple Leafs Nation. No one expects him to keep pace with all-stars Tim Thomas and Ryan Miller in the Northeast, but he must at least answer the bell. How Reimer performs will likely impact coach Ron Wilson's future. With no contract extension entering the season after his three playoff misses, Wilson doesn't need another crisis in the crease. There will be demands for Wilson's head if the Leafs stumble early and though general manager Brian Burke is not one to fire coaches in midseason, there wouldn't be much choice if it extends to April.

Wilson, Burkie, the Leafs. Everything depends on this kid. He flinches, they all go down the tubes.

A properly written article would mention the fact that Burke's **** is on the line here too. The days of optimism when he first signed here are long gone, and that leash is tied from the top of the ACC, not the CN Tower. And it's only getting shorter.

It's pathetic. And Steve Simmons needs a zap to the face.

Anyways, article is true though. Reimer's holding all the cards. If he takes a step back, expect a clearout at the deadline/Summer. My question is, if he gets hurt, and the team falls out of contention quickly, what's their next move then?

Maybe Ronnie and Brian can do the edge walk at the CN tower.

Wilson and Burkie....two boils on the NHL's ****.

Another way to look at it is if Reimer performs badly and gets Rotten Ronnie and the Burke fired.......he could be enshrined in the Hall of Fame for great charitable work?

Nice.
Why so much pressure on the young goaltender? It isn't his fault the team is a mess.
Put Patrick Roy in his prime b/w the pipes for the Leafs and they would find a way to lose.

Not necessarily a matter of pinning the blame on anyone here (no need for it, everyone already knows where it lies). It's more a case of "the last hope" being the youngster in net.

I believe someone will be on here to tell us he's the next Bernie Parent, so Wilson's job is safe.

You'd think so but, the T*****o media love Burke so much, they're afraid to fire him. :-)

Lot of pressure on a young unproven tender. He seems like a good kid too.

If Reimer was smart and wanted to stay in Toronto for a while, he would be better off starting slow so the organization can blow itself up and start from scratch.

Not up to a player to do that. He has no control over when, or where (AHL or NHL) he plays or whether he plays a lot or a little. I wish the kid well, as a matter of fact I don't wish ill for any of the guys who play. Just the dolts who run the franchise. Or should I say who are ruining the team.

reimer is the the latest in the "great" line of Maple Leaf goalies.

Raycroft
Giguere
Toskala
Pogge
Gustavsson

These are a small sample of the goalies in Toronto that were going to change the face of the NHL.

That is a heckova lot of pressure on a young goaltender.

Interesting question though about what happens if Reimer gets injured. I'll make this easy for Ronnie. If things get shakey pull Reimer out and say that he has an injury to his a) groin, b) hamstring c) knee d) all of the above.

Problem solved.

Trade with Boston? Another round of 1st round picks would be nice.
