Bruins talking to Blue Jackets?

With goalie Manny Fernandez (knee surgery) lost for the season, and the return date for Patrice Bergeron (Grade 3 concussion) still in question, the Bruins are looking to make a deal or two, perhaps among their forward and defensive corps. One longtime scout, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said last night at the Garden he believed the Bruins were in talks with Columbus, which will be in town tomorrow night. The Blue Jackets, who look capable of landing the franchise's first playoff berth, were rumored in the offseason to be trying to move talented Russian winger Nikolai Zherdev, who has a history of being somewhat of a lone ranger on the ice.

gee bob, it's sad that you and I are the only ones here who still care!

December 14, 2007  05:11 PM ET

Hey I didn't have any time to check in today Sox Babe. I just hope he isn't like Afinogenov from the Sabres with the "lone ranger" mentality. Nothing like a good old rent-a-player!

Zherdev??? really?? Sounds like another Stan Chistov to me. Well if they can get him for cheap I won't complain, but for some reason I don't think the Jackets are ready to let him go for cheap yet.

Bruins will now have salary cap money to spend by putting Fernandez on IR as he was due to make 4.3 milion this year. They wil get some cap money because of Bergeron also being on IR but they will be a little more careful here not to spend all of his cap dollars as there is still the chance he may be back this year. Zherdez has put up decent numbers this year 24pts in 30 games (12 goals). Bruins can use another goal scorer on the team. I would also like to see the Bruins check and see if Danny Markov is available. I know that he signed to play over seas but I believe he has an out in his contract if signed to a NHL contract. The Bruins did show an interest early in the year but were up against a tight salary cap, this isn't the problem anymore. He would step in right away and be one of the top defenceman on the team.

Zherdez to the Bruins?Who would we give up thats worth trading?Lucic?Kessel?I wouldnt trade these guys for Zherdev.A draft pick(s)?We do need a goal scoring winger in the worst way.Either way...i dont like our Gm's track record so far.

bostongm,

This guy's GM performnace is light years from Mike O'Connell/Harry Sinden's fire sale...they're in 2nd place in the Northeast..get on the Black and Gold Bus...

GO B'S!!!!!!

December 15, 2007  12:08 PM ET

RSB,

Other than this thread, you'd be surprised at how much support the B's are getting in the hocky community in Boston...I talked to Bob Beers (his kid in our town program) and he said that form his perspective, that the type of hockey Clause Julien has brought to the B's (although hated by some fans) has truned this thing around. Very similar to the Devil's style of taking away the mid ice from the faster amd more skilled teams...hey it's working and the fans are BACK!!!!

It's tough to get more support because the C's and Pats are so dominant right now....

BobBoston...i bleed black and gold.Close to 20 years now.I just dont like the fact that the GM traded Boyes for Wideman.I knew Boyes was good. The GM's justification in that trade was that Bochenski would take his spot.Bochenski has done nothing so far this year. While Boyes looks like he has 40-50 goal potential. The GM also traded Toivonen for a nobody. He also signed an injury prone goalie.(I know that we dont need Fernandez).Waste of 4 million.Either way....i HOPE thats the last of his f*** ups....Lets go Boston!!!!

Everybody is talking to everybody, OK? So, why is this news? (DC)

December 15, 2007  03:34 PM ET

Gotcha,

BostonGm , thanks for the clarification..I read that Bochenski was told on the off season to get stronger...he wnet and put on almost 20 pounds and looked cut but lost speed and he's trying to get it back..he used to be a sniper..I agree...Go Boston (again)...

December 15, 2007  03:37 PM ET

DCruiser.

Because if you're a B's fan, you are recovering from the Sinden.O'Connell horror show backed up by the Dave Lewis clown show....they has a coach by the name of Mike Sullivan, but the Sinden.O'Connell show needed a fall guy....

At leaset we're winnning now , and there's SOME hope....any trades to pick up the offense will get noticed...

December 18, 2007  03:25 PM ET

Go B's!!!! Beat the Senators tonight!!!!

December 20, 2007  07:09 PM ET
